The Streets of Gotham, Part 2

Previously, on MinerBumping... I encountered an angry miner named Gotham2. When I reminded the system's miners of their responsibilities under the Code, Gotham2 suggested we meet at a coffee shop for an out-of-game duel.

Gotham2 was confident of his out-of-game fighting skills, in the same way that a space lawyer is supremely confident that miner bumping violates the EULA. But I cautioned Gotham2 that I had some skills of my own.

Gotham2 repeated his preference for street fighting, the kind of high-risk, down-and-dirty, no holds barred contest that all carebears love.

As I continued my conversation with Gotham2, my Invincible Stabber surfed through the Kamio ice field. Gotham2 was busy using his nearly 7 year-old character to gather ice in a Retriever.

Gotham2 was full of boasts. I always win street fights because no one can defeat my Dragon Punch--but Gotham2 liked his chances.

Even if Gotham2 could counter my flying uppercut, I had more than a few extra tricks up my sleeve.

Without warning, I bumped Gotham2's Retriever, and continued to bump it until he was well outside of mining range. He was taken completely by surprise. No holds barred, right?

He didn't take it as well as he could have. Unable to seize the advantage in the arena of the Kamio ice field, he still longed to fight me on his own turf, at the coffee shop.

Gotham2 was unable to counter my Invincible Stabber's bumps. It was time for him to admit defeat in an honourable fashion.

Instead of a "gf" in local, Gotham2 continued to rail against the Code.

I had to ask myself, how mean must those streets be if he gets an adrenaline rush from AFK ice mining in highsec?

Gotham2 warped back to the station, where he remained for several minutes. After bumping some other Code violators for awhile, I watched Gotham2 return to the ice field. I swiftly returned him to the penalty box and tried to instruct him. But the unruly student would not have me as his sensei.

Gotham2 logged off in disgust, and the Kamio system was improved thereby. Somewhere in the world, a troubled young man returned to the local gym to practice his flying uppercut.

  2. Aw man you should have called in some knights to gank him while he was busy being a tough guy in local. :(

The rage and tears could have filled a couple days worth of blog posts.

  3. I think we need to invite Gotham2 onto voice chat... for the benefit of all.

  5. Surely that's a triple red pen violation right there?
Did you remind him about the pen? They do say it's mightier than the sword, and in that batman movie the joker proved a pencil can be pretty nasty too.

  6. Wow, so much rage over a simple collection of pixels on a screen. Maybe he needs to see an anger management therapist, or something like that.

  13. James 315: "oh he logged off... another VICTORY for the new order!"

And there we have the proof of what James is really about from his very own fingers. He's not about getting miners to be more active and play the game. He's not about stopping them from going AFK. He's all about getting them to STOP playing altogether. That is his VICTORY condition.

    2. if your opponent surrenders....you are awarded the victory.
thats only been true since....oh...i dont know...THE FIRST SURRENDER IN HUMANITY.
      idiot.
so a foul-mouthed punk who wanted to up the ante to the other side of his moms basement door with a physical confrontation, over internet spaceship pixels somehow becomes.....the good guy?
      i think not.

gotham is a punk, james is not.

      1) Did I state (or even hint) Gotham2 was a "good guy"?
      2) What did Gotham2 surrender?
      3) I didn't say anything about surrender / history.
      4) What has any of that got to do with my post?
      5) I'm not defending Gotham2's actions.
      6) I'm questioning James' real motives / ambitions which appear to be in stark contrast to what he purports to want.

So you just made up a whole lot of irrelevance and called me an idiot based on your rhetorical ramblings. Apart from being rude and offensive, you completely missed the point of my post. I wouldn't be surprised if you threaten me with violence soon, "Gotham" style. You've certainly started out in a similar way to him by chucking ad-hom insults about.

    4. So you take this single episode as an example over the countless miners that joined the New Order or even became Agents? You're not objective.

Other than that...are you seriously concerned that a violent and rude player like Gotham2 logged off?

    5. @Rennseslear

I'm not mad. I'm cool and composed, as can be seen by my replies. You appear to be the mad / angry one going by the insults you're chucking around with gay abandon. Your hate and anger are hard to miss.

I can only assume that you ignore what I say regarding James 315 & his real motives because you either don't like the truth or you can't comprehend simple English (did the numbers in my reply confuse you maybe?). I'm leaning toward the latter given that you have to resort to lying about how I play the game, when you don't even know me. Are you oblivious as to how utterly ridiculous that is? If you lack argument, fine. But replacing it with ad-hom attacks really makes you look desperate with no valid point to make.

      @Anonymous
According to Rennseslear, your opinion is invalid because you are not using a fake internet name like he does. I don't understand such "logic" but I'm trying to fit in with the locals. Sorry dude.

    6. still just sounds like a butthurt troll to me.
a sensitive soul indeed, to consider things ive said insulting.
youre the one that came here to complain.
and whatever that fake internet name stuff is about, i doubt people walk around calling you madam. you should stop trying to fit in and be your own person.

    7. @Rennseslear
Well, there is that random "idiot" in your original response to the post, so what's up with that? And of course, we here really can't read Gotham's mind, so we are in no place to make assumptions about why he logged off. And of course your statement about Gotham becoming the "good guy" (even though sarcastic) was completely irrelevant to the original post.

      @Madam Jasmine
Do you really think James would want to intentionally drive away a miner, when his stated goal has been to improve them and make them more willing to contribute to EVE? And maybe think that if Gotham logged off, how does that make him look? Plus, you are probably inferring too much from this event, that Gotham is likely to log on again rather than leave EVE for good.

Both of you also need to stop with these attacks on each other, yes BOTH of you are doing this, it is only going to continue like this and make the both of you look worse for it.

    8. @Alistair. Your first question has hit the nail on the head. Well done. It's what I've been saying all along. As for your 2nd question, I don't care how Gotham looks which is why I've not wrote about it, only you and Rennseslear have.

So now what? James 315 having just announced a really flimsy excuse for dropping out of CSM 8 at the very last moment really pulls into question everything he has said and done. So much mismatch between his words and his actions, I'm amazed anyone still falls for it.

    9. @Madam Jasmine
My second question was half-rhetorical, sort of trying to make my point. I'm also just trying to mediate the conflict I saw growing on these comments.

As to why James dropped out, he listed some reasons, the most prominent being the NDA, which meant he would have to silence himself about anything CCP told him he couldn't talk about. And CCP is now choosing the majority of CSM representatives that get sent to Iceland, and while I trust the judgment of the devs, it definitely would raise some controversy about who they choose regardless of who it is.

    10. @Alistair

      There are 2 possibilities here.
      a) James did not know about the NDA and what it means before announcing his CSM candidacy.
      or
      b) James did know about the NDA and what it means before announcing his CSM candidacy.

If it's a), James is an incompetent fool who has just shown he can't be bothered to even spend 10 seconds investigating what the CSM is all about. He would make a terrible CSM representative.

If it's b), James has been deceiving and lying to everyone all along. He is untrustworthy and would make a terrible CSM representative.

James has shown us what he really is, though some others like me had already seen through his thin veil of deceit.

      Delete
    11. @Jasmine

I really can't confirm this, but I've heard that the NDA announcement came before James announced his candidacy, and the possibility of him being incompetent I would think to be rather unlikely. I would take the comment of another as a possibility, that it was simply a test of social manipulation, to see if there was the possibility and support for him to get the seat. He proved that the support was there, and that was all he needed. Just an explanation of the whole comment, but that's only a possibility, and I certainly can't read James' mind.

Possible dishonesty, it wouldn't surprise me, being a politician means that lying is really what is going to happen a lot. But that's probably my lack of interest and general dislike of anything political talking.
