A Lesson Worth a PLEX

We of the New Order of Highsec are, in many ways, the keepers of EVE. We represent and preserve the true spirit of EVE far more than, say, CCP does. The latest nerf to ganking proposed by CCP: The PLEX Vault.

Long story short, the PLEX Vault is intended to make PLEX ungankable. But note that when this system goes live, it will still be possible for a carebear to be foolish enough to put PLEX into his cargo--it will simply be an even more egregious mistake.

(Side note: Minus points to the author of this dev blog. "We even might understand why"? As if someone in CCP might not get why EVE players would enjoy seeing an expensive killmail?)

Agent Salah ad-Din al-Jawahiri has the right attitude. He's savoring every PLEX killmail.

Excluding kills earned by a fleet, Salah's records show he's scored 16 ganks with 27 PLEX involved. Of those 27, only 7 PLEX dropped.

As it happened, the PLEX-toting shuttle pilot Larden Brav was indeed one of those new players CCP is so concerned with helping.

Our Agent saw Larden's "boss" and raised him a "friend".

Salah was stunned by Larden's excuse. Could he really be unaware of how to move from system to system without using autopilot?

The EVE tutorial is famously insufficient. At this point, I think it's fair to say that dealing with an Agent of the New Order is an unofficial part of the tutorial.

For as much as the rebels and the carebear apologists claim to be pro-newbie, there's only one organization in the game that actually cares enough to teach them how to play.

Imagine what it would be like to play EVE and not know how to travel without autopilot. The carebears beg CCP to make new players invulnerable to ganks, but if Salah hadn't ganked Larden, he'd still be autopiloting. Or more likely, he'd be on his way to quitting the game.

Salah taught Larden an essential game mechanic that no one else bothered to show him. That was easily worth the PLEX.

Just more evidence that our activities improve player retention. Highsec was truly a dark place before the Code.

The carebears want to remove us from EVE. Impossible. We are EVE. Without us, what would be left of the game?

  1. This is about as right as it gets. Well done Salah, and well done Larden!

    1. We should eliminate Larden anyways, the new Eve should not be host to his kind.

  2. Wow! A Gallant Shuttle Driver who dropped PLEX and didn't rage. I'm impressed!

    1. Your right we need to make him rage quit, no place in New Eden for ignorant capsuleers.

  3. That is a problem with the NPE that needs addressing.

    1. I thought the same thing. In the NPE, the pilot is taught that the correct way to move to another system is to use the autopilot. I feel sorry for this guy for being mislead by the tutorial.

  4. It seems unbelievable, but I too have met new players who didn't know how to travel without autopilot and were complaining about how long it was taking to travel from place to place.

    1. Back when I was a newbie, you can't imagine my unadulterated joy when I learned that you could warp to 0 onto a gate and jump. I stopped using autopilot after that day!

    2. I'm rather shame-faced to admit, Zander, that when I started playing, almost exactly 4 years ago, I didn't use autopilot - because I thought it was some kind of 'fast-travel' option, and I didn't want to miss anything!

      Awwwww....

  8. Wow, the NPE must be jacked. When did CCP start teaching newbros to use AP over warp-to?

Eleven years on and I can't remember doing any tutorials, I was recruited by some pvper's and they helped me learn EVE the proper way, and that's how you retain new players.

We need more aggressive null/low recruitment, for the sake of our new players.

    1. The tutorial from when I started (2009) literally did not teach warp to zero. All navigation was "set destination, activate autopilot." Lemme tell you, it was nice when I did learn warp to zero.

    2. The tutorials still teach that. I ran it with my 2nd account for grins and giggles and rolled my eyes at how slow autopiloting is

  9. On my first days in EvE, I was convinced that Highsec officials were bribed by evil ganker organizations (not you, but -evil- ones) to include a useless but dangerous autopilot feature to every ship, and even have that silly AI chick to promote it.

    And I'm still convinced. :)

  10. I don't trust the AI chick. She looks dishonest. Plus she calls the NPC's "powerful" and "influential" which they are not.

I'm fairly certain she is a bot-aspirant too...
