The Circle of Death

One fine day in highsec, Agent Ernst Steinitz met a Hulk pilot named Typharia. 'Twas the start of something beautiful.

No, the 790 million isk Hulk wasn't beautiful--it was an abomination. Just look at it: ORE Strip Miners, capacitor tank, and those rigs?

I didn't re-post the same killmail twice; Typharious, the owner of a likewise abominable 793 million isk Hulk, was also killed. Agent Ernst and Max August Zorn expertly pulled off a simultaneous gank of two blingy Hulks.

The Loot Fairy was on good behavior, so two of the four ORE Strip Miners dropped. Ernst sold them in Jita to someone named Mir Graf. Our Agent made sure to write that name down, because he very much wanted to meet him.

According to his title, Mir Graf was the "Best player in corp". Perhaps Ernst was wrong in assuming that Mir was just another bot-aspirant miner who would lose his ORE Strip Miners as easily as the Typharia/Typharious pair did.

Our Agent wasn't wrong. Indeed, Mir was an even bigger Goofus. He lost a 1.4 billion isk Mackinaw, along with some blingy drones that were in space at the time. Ernst confiscated the drones and everything that dropped from the Mackinaw.

The miner's ORE Strip Miners proved to be luckier than the miner--they managed to survive two consecutive ganks. You know what? Agent Ernst informed me that he's already found a buyer for them. And so it continues.

  1. Laugh outloud funny article from start to finish. Code simply always wins! \0/

On a side note, can anyone in the know advise on where these wretched ORE strip miners originally spawn from?

    1. The ORE faction mining equipment originates from BPCs purchased in the Outer Ring LP store with ORE LP, often converted from Incursion CONCORD LP.

  2. What a great lesson. A blingy loot drop is not only a hefty boost to your bank account, but a valuable bit of intel. Never sell to the highest buy order, always list your own sell order. The sale gives you the name of the buyer and his active hours, and a Locator Agent will tell you where to look for him. So how to get a Locator agent? Here's a mini-guide:

Your goal is to get >3.0 standings with a corporation that has a level 3 locator Agent. A level 3 locator agent is able to find anybody in k-space within 8 minutes for 100k ISK every 15 minutes. It's best to use a dedicated alt for this since Locators cannot be accessed remotely. With the bonus SP provided by completing the NPE on a fresh character you have everything you need to run distribution missions to grind this up in about 8 hours. Why distro? Because they can be completed every 5-10 minutes. To minimize the total time this takes, you want to run missions somewhere where the travel time is short, and where the storyline missions are offered by Agent in the same corp that you're pulling L1s and L2s from. Ytriri corp in Jeras system fulfills these criteria nicely.

The Agency has replaced the old Agent Finder. Start by pulling Ytiri L1 distribution missions from Agents Adazai Turas and Erinen Veikoyera in Jeras VII - Moon 15 - Ytiri Storage. You can pull and run them 2 at a time. L1s are a mix of courier, combat, and mining missions. Use a T1 exploration frig with whatever racial T1 guns and 500m3 of cargo space for the couriers and combats. I used a Magnate with hyperspat rigs, small shield booster, and a mix of istabs an expander in the lows. Also bring a Venture for the mining. Always complete a storyline mission when it appears, as these are your major source of corp standing boosts and allow you to finish sooner. Continue doing L1s until you reach >2.0 Ytiri standing and then switch to L2s offered by Agent Haario Notta in Jeras VII - Moon 1 - Ytiri Storage. L2s are all courier missions which can also be completed in your frigate. Once your Ytiri standing is >3.0 you are done and you now have access to L3 Locator Agent Kuotanen Kabara in Jeras VII - Moon 1 - Ytiri Storage.

    2. Holy shit, someone's carebear is showing.

I must be playing this game wrong, but I have no idea what you are talking about. It doesn't seem like the locator agent thing was thought out too well CCP. What is all this nonsense?

Hauling in highsec is against the Code.

      Always!

    4. It pays to know your enemy :)

This one-time bit of PvE can be justified by the advantage it offers for hunting. Don't forget to buy a permit for your locator in training!

I've posted a better version on The School's blog.

    6. I tried to follow your tutorial, Professor, but I can't stop ganking my shitter hauling alt. Even when he has a permit I can't stop shooting at him. Plus his attitude when I sold him the permit was totally uncalled for so that makes me wanna kill him again. This is getting me nowhere.

So far no joy on rep gains.

    7. Funny, when I was doing it I kept seeing Macks and Hulks on dscan and stopping to gank them. That was a rough few days for the carebears in Ihilakken constellation but the distraction helped keep me motivated.

    8. Back in my time I just asked a senior agent nicely to do some locatoring for me. Being sociable and helpful is one of the more iconic of the numerous merits we have compared to the bot aspirant filth we deal with.
