Love and Justice

Enemies of the New Order have long theorized that we are part of a galaxy-wide Goon conspiracy.

Every movement of the New Order is tracked alongside parallel activities going on in nullsec. It's all part of a big tinfoil jigsaw puzzle.

But is the New Order really a shadowy hand of Goonswarm reaching into highsec?

I received an EVEmail from Sixx Spades of the Goonswarm Ministry of Love. They, too, were incensed by the illegal mining activity going on in one of their favorite highsec haunts. Who wouldn't be?

A tanked-up mining Dominix piloted by Rudyjarkon was suicide ganked by the Goons. Mining battleships are strange and unnatural--they deserve to die. When they're piloted by Code violators, that is.

Sixx also provided intel on Fred Sandusky. New Order Agents who participated in the Gallente campaign in January may recognize the name. Fred was a vulture who used his Naga battlecruiser to take potshots at our Knights while they were busy cleansing the ice fields.

Kaboom! Fred finally got his just deserts. Fred's Orca was unusually expensive, with a 1.36 billion isk loss recorded. Impressively, only three highly-skilled Goon Taloses were needed to do the gank.

Fittingly, Fred's Naga was lost as well; it was sitting inside the Orca's ship hangar. The Goons recorded this video of the gank.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Love's operation sparked some controversy when Seraphin Foad announced on EVE-O that freighters need to buy security passes to travel freely through highsec, and miners may be taxed as well. I am often asked what the New Order's policy is on such things. Will the New Order attack other organizations that levy taxes on highsec residents? Will we attempt to defend miners from ganks conducted by rival "protection rackets"? People who ask such questions are overthinking it; the Code is very clear. Should the Goons take further aggressive actions, my advice to highsec residents would be this:

Pay to the New Order what you owe the New Order, and pay to the Goons what you owe the Goons. It's common sense!

  1. The New Order - we're like the United Nations of New Eden, except we actually do stuff.

    1. yep like the U.N. whenever some warlord comes and declares independence and starts killing the people you where supposed to protect, you give them a firm warning to stop...

    2. 1. There's nothing akin to the warlord declaring independence in that forum post.

      2. The New Order isn't supposed to protect anyone or anything, except for highsec and the future of EVE online. EVE online is a game about blowing up ships, so protecting the future of EVE online doesn't involve protecting ships from being blown up, but encouraging it.

      3. Therefore, the New Order hasn't told any 'warlords' to stop.

Your simile is 100% wrong in every particular. A very poor effort.

    3. >EVE online is a game about blowing up ships

then why not just have all ships supplied by npcs and get rid of mining and industry?
EVE online is a game about ISK.

    4. That would be a very sad game...ISK is not an end, it's a means to an end. You make ISK to buy ships to blow up.

Watch some EVE trailers, the videos that promote the game. What is the most recurring theme? ISK making or spaceships fights? And when there's ISK making, is it peaceful mining or stealing/awoxing? Draw your conclusions.

  2. ""Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's" (Ἀπόδοτε οὖν τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ τῷ Θεῷ)."

But what if you drive over Caesar's roads, to get to Pilate's city, to go to your rabbi's temple, to pray to God? Then you must render the ordinary fee to all 4, or suffer extraordinary rendition to a place you don't want to go. It's enough to drive a reasonable man out of highsec, to that vast frontier where you can pay one master, or none. But wait: If all the reasonable miners/haulers leave highsec, then the only miner/haulers left will be...well, the same people as are there now. There won't be a damn bit of difference, more's the pity. Still, keep on fighting the good fight, my brothers of the Code.

    1. We are not driving miners out of highsec, Audrik. We are only driving non-compliant miners out of highsec.

10m ISK per year is chickenfeed. The only reason we even charge anything is to separate the properly submissive miners from the rebels who need to be scourged.

    2. It was a discussion of a hypothetical future in which the Goons, who in the linked post charge 600m/year per miner or some similar figure, had spread their fingers widely, initiating copycats for their model as well. Not a likely future, nor the best possible future perhaps, but I think better than what exists now. I think it would be pretty amusing if they seriously tried to enforce that post, and that inspired my response, greek quotation and all.

    3. 480m per year per mining barge, 600m per year per orca, to be precise.

    4. If you have a problem with Goon service charges, you really should bring it up with them.

Or perhaps join an anti-goon nullsec alliance?

You know ... do something about what you perceive is a problem. It's what you do when you don't like paying.

    5. But I said I liked the charges.

    1. The only election that James had anything to do with, he ran away from, crying about big bad naughty CCP. That's CCP, the very same people he promised to never take any shit off when he's elected onto the CSM. All terribly sad really.

  5. What a sad orca fit. I see what he was trying to do -- the shield tank was configured specifically against catalyst ganks -- but he chose to anti-tank the structure. If he had taken one, just one damage control in place of a cargo expander, he might have survived, but in the end, Fred Sandusky was just too greedy.

    1. Trust me when I say that we had already scouted his fit and would have adjusted accordingly had we seen a DCII. He would have died regardless.

    2. Sounds like a case of ganking being overpowered then. Time to nerf ganking!

    1. James, by playing the game, is fixing high sec a lot more than CSM ever did. I think staying out of the CSM is the right decision.
