EVE Is Dying

There's been quite a lot of talk lately about EVE's decline and CCP's internal problems. Some of this talk is worth taking seriously; last month we learned How CCP Can Save Itself and EVE Online. That MinerBumping post contains the definitive set of solutions for getting EVE back on track. Yet the question remains: Is EVE really dying?

People have been proclaiming some variation of "EVE is dying" for years. That doesn't mean that EVE is immortal, or that CCP will never fold. On the other hand, in light of history, dire warnings about EVE's future should be taken with a grain of salt.

I think it's only appropriate to craft a definitive answer to that most provocative of questions, "Is EVE dying?" Whether they admit it or not, the EVE-playing public looks to the New Order and the mighty CODE. alliance for guidance. When they hear that EVE may be dying, they want answers, and on some level they expect those answers from us. They certainly won't get them anywhere else.

So here it is. This post may be linked wherever there is a discussion of whether EVE is dying.

MY

FACE

INCOMING

EVE is dying... for more Code.

EVE is dying... for emergent content, the vast majority of which is currently being supplied by the Code.

EVE is dying... for exciting, elite PvP, not risk-free AFK PvE such as that which the Code-violating bot-aspirants seek to practice.

EVE is dying... for a return to its roots, the spirit of EVE first revealed to the world in the story of the Guiding Hand Social Club's famous heist, the legacy of which is best represented by the New Order and its Agents.

EVE is dying... for an end to the stagnation that naturally arises from an isk-grinding, isk-hoarding mindset, be it in highsec, nullsec, or anywhere else; the New Order is the natural enemy of this mindset, and the Code articulates its only viable alternative.

EVE is dying... for big personalities, colorful characters like those who drove the story of EVE from the very beginning--the biggest and best example of which is the Saviour of Highsec; though my famous and extraordinary modesty scarcely permits me to say so, I do it for the sake of the game and the betterment of all who play it.

EVE is dying... for the creativity and derring-do displayed by so many Agents of the New Order as they find new ways of enforcing the Code--in such stark contrast to the carebears who beg CCP to make the game safer and easier for AFK isk-grinding.

EVE is dying... for more of those who would speak the truth, the real truth as it is spoken by our Agents and written in the time-honoured pages of MinerBumping, not the fake news and spin presented in carebear domains like the EVE subreddit, where upvotes and downvotes are so recklessly cast by the "I've never been ganked by CODE., but I hate them with a burning passion, almost as though I've been ganked by them..." set.

EVE is dying... for modesty and restraint on the part of carebears who might otherwise be tempted to fit their ships with blingy modules and their pods with unnecessarily expensive implants--and for swift punishment and expensive lossmails to those carebears who give in to temptation.

EVE is dying... for new players who come to the game to play the game the way it's meant to be played, not to change the game to accommodate their bot-aspirant "needs".

EVE is dying... for bold, courageous action by CCP devs willing to make good decisions, not devs who shrug their shoulders and say, "Well, we made some (bad) changes to this mechanic a few years ago, so we'll revisit it in another five years..."

EVE is dying... for responsible, hands-off GMs and forum moderators, who recognize that EVE is a game whose content comes from its players, not from those who warn, ban, and censor said players when they're starting to get interesting.

EVE is dying... for greater, more magnificent levels of Code-compliance, by highsec residents whose attitudes reflect how lucky they are to be given the opportunity to obey the Code.

EVE is dying... for a level of respect and praise from the EVE playerbase to the Saviour of Highsec that exceeds even the expectations of said Saviour's Agents--as befits said Saviour's great deeds and contributions to the game.

In short, EVE is dying... for Code, Code, and more Code.

Always!

  2. Praise James 315! All capsuleers should immediately stop grinding for monthly PLEX. Reprocess your krabbing vessels and return to your roots by joining a PvP corp and blowing stuff up. Dissolve your NIPs and fire your diplomats. Ganking, bumping, baiting, scamming, brawling and war are way forward. Show your support for The Saviour and The Code, wherever you live, by purchasing a stylish permit from one of our Agents in the minerbumping channel. For The Good of New Eden.

  6. EVE is dying... for more highsec carebear hunting! Any pilot who truly cares about EVE should have at least one gank alt for killing highsec miners and ag filth. Killing ag helps EVE remain true to Hilmar's vision.

  23. Alas, expecting a "gf" back from an agent is, at best, a lesson in futility and broken expectations. Agents who get caught at gates and killed, get disrupted warping into a site and get killed, get ECM jammed and their victim saved (and themselves subsequently killed) seem to have a visceral inability to reply back to a "gf".

    I wonder why?

  26. How CODE acts:

Government agencies at all levels aimed to exclude Jews from the economic sphere of Germany by preventing them from earning a living. Jews were required to register their domestic and foreign property and assets, a prelude to the gradual expropriation of their material wealth by the state. Likewise, the German authorities intended to "Aryanize" all Jewish businesses, a process involving the dismissal of Jewish workers and managers, as well as the transfer of companies and enterprises to non-Jewish Germans, who bought them at prices officially fixed well below market value. From April 1933 to April 1938, "Aryanization" effectively reduced the number of Jewish-owned businesses in Germany by approximately two-thirds.

What code forces miners to pay for:

During the Nazi era, German authorities reintroduced the Jewish badge as a key element in their plan to persecute and eventually to destroy the Jewish population of Europe. They used the badge not only to stigmatize and humiliate Jews but also to segregate them and to watch and control their movements.

    How code fights:
Blitzkrieg means “lightning war”. It was an innovative military technique first used by the Germans in World War two and was a tactic based on speed and surprise. Blitzkrieg relied on a military force be based around Light tank units supported by planes and infantry (foot soldiers). The tactic was based on Alfred von Schlieffen’s ‘Schlieffen Plan’ – this was a doctrine formed during WWI that focused on quick military victory. It was later developed in Germany by an army officer called Heinz Guderian who looked at new technologies, namely dive bombers and light tanks, to improve the German army’s maneuverability.

    Minerbumping.com propaganda is just like:

Films released to the public concentrated on certain issues: the greed of Jews; the greatness of Hitler; the way of life for a true Nazi especially the young and as World war 2 approached, how badly Germans who lived in countries in Eastern Europe were treated.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "A governmental police force" Well we seen that before and it never worked out for the public.

"aimed at evicting from Highsec all them bums who won't hail James 315" So now he needs attention and worship from everyone. Attention whore perhaps?

"by inflicting misery and preventing them from earning a living" Like when Nazi Germany forced the Jews into the ghettos.

"All residents are required to display a permit and contribute 10 million ISK per year of their material wealth to the state." So taxes, but you don't get to vote on them, a revolution was fought about this once.

"Under the New Order, society consists of three strata: the elite Agents, the loyal masses, and the squatters." Wow a repeat of a Nazi society, a hierarchy born from the idealism of an egalitarian society.

"The loyal masses are free to run businesses as they see fit, providing that they comply with The Code." Unfortunately its hard to comply to rules that are changing on a daily basis.

"A permit, available for the cost of a symbolic fee, just like all the other law-abiding capsuleers." A symbolic fee would be more like what Xerxees was asking for, this is actually part of a players earnings and thus not symbolic.

"Always Elite, always outnumbered, always winning." Depends on who you ask, and certainly not elite here in the comments with the amount of swearing is done even by named agents. Winning would be a relative term, in this instance, where you are profiting but your still not getting the control your demanding.

"Posts released to the public concentrated on certain issues: the greed of carebears; the greatness of James 315; the way of life of Agents, and how badly the noncompliant miners who squat in Highsec live." Now that does sound very familiar.
"Films released to the public concentrated on certain issues: the greed of Jews; the greatness of Hitler; the way of life for a true Nazi especially the young and as World war 2 approached, how badly Germans who lived in countries in Eastern Europe were treated." Yup that's why it sounded familiar.

  28. Good evening, New Eden. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of everyday routine, the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition, the totality of blogs. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, where upon important events of the past, usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, are celebrated with a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are, of course, those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with moderator accounts will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well, certainly, there are those who are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable. But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, ganking. They were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, James 315. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. This night, I seek to end that silence. This night, I corrupt the MB to remind this community of what it has forgotten. A great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words; they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this Code remain unknown to you, then I would suggest that you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me, inside the gates of High Sec, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot.

  29. So the victims of their villainous deeds would descend upon them bringing forth new weapons and new warriors who would fight in new ways. Those who had done them harm would find fate without mercy and they would feign bravery. Alas fear wells up deep from within and a very real shiver ascends the spine of the criminals and murderers as they now look into the very mirror of their animosity. They cannot win a war that reflects themselves.

  30. The Code of Awakening.
    1: The “Awakened” always wins.
2: The Eve Online code has never won ever due to the fact of the tactics being used are considered by the game developers to be “illegal Ganks”.
3: If a member of the New Order of Halaima fails to consider that they are just like suicide terrorists then they are very short sighted and must be considered criminal and unstable.
4: Any member of the code alliance must be considered unstable, troll them online only but if met in real life stay away and call the authorities for they may be bringing their in game rage and anger out of game to harm people and children.
5: Under no circumstances must you ever let a code agent near children.
6: Always renounce the ways of the codes favorite agent Kalynn Shardani, they praise this agent highest due to his actions of killing his own child for the code alliance.
7: Only under extraordinary circumstances will a member of the code become anything more than a closet terrorist, criminal, unstable, child molester, and/or greifers. Those who do make progress towards enlightenment must be monitored closely and never fully trusted as the indoctrination of James 315 is still within them and they could return to wanting to harm people in real life.
8: Never converse with the code agent in game, they will claim it as a victory but it also serves as a way of gathering information on you which they may use to find you in real life to visit harm upon you. They will post the conversation on their website so that all the other agents may attempt to locate you and visit harm upon you and your children.
9: Remember that a code agent does not live in reality, due to this fact they can never truly win in any engagement be it an argument or a battle.
10: The “Awakened” shall know only victory over the code agent because the code knows only hate, pain, greed, and envy. The “Awakened” always worships life while the code agent only worships death and murder. The “Awakened” accepts and follows laws while the code will bring their delusions out of game and fail to recognize laws.
11: A code agent will never accept reality, they cling to their fantasies with a death grip, and no agent is ever truly awakened from their delusions. Because of this they always fail at life.

Police have closed 2nd Street and Commercial Avenue and surrounding areas.

Police say the shooter was barricaded inside the Montage with a hostage, whom police say is safe, screaming about noncompliance of a code. Police shot at the shooter, who is alive.

I'm about as carebear as they come, but I still have the stones to live in null, low, and spend time in WH space. The shit people give high sec players for never leaving can be attributed to these guys as well, the only difference is, that at least carebears don't fly around with an inflated sense of pride because they pad their kill boards with kills from people who can't fight back.

I'm sure these are the people who play fps games against novice bots, and claim that they are l33t.

  37. Code is basically a group that likes to fight the defenseless/easy fights. Generally flying catalysts. They take their RP seriously, but are generally a bunch of annoying shmucks harassing the indie playerbase. Mostly goon alts too iirc.

Buy a falcon, fly into a system where they're operating, start collecting tears (ganker tears have 10x the satisfaction concentration!).

  38. Spoiler alert:

Most PvP in this game is by people looking for easy wins.

Hence the lack of new players.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ganking and extortion are valid interesting mechanics, however the fan club of these activities are typically a bunch of risk averse manbabies.

I mean fuck they didn't even show up for the alliance tournament because they were fearful of loss and tried to play it off as meta game.

The other piece of this though are new players making themselves easy targets by fitting inappropriately for lack of knowledge and making themselves subject to manbaby ganks. Gankers take advantage of the fact that they have incomplete knowledge. No-ware in the mining tutorial do they inform you that drones, shields and awareness are your primary tools of defense in high security space as an industry pilot. In fact dscan isn't even a thing in the tutorials.

  45. Sadly, CODE and their allies are exploiting a loophole in the game's rules that states griefing is allowed, so long as the activity is profitable.

And James says he doesn't do this for the money, what a sack of shit without a sack.

    ReplyDelete
  46. New Order (CODE and co.) agents will show you absolutely no sympathy, as they are utterly convinced that their cause is just despite their rampantly hypocritical and psychopathic behaviour. Your agony and heartbreak will be met with a condescending "calm down miner" and repeated demands for purchase of a 'permit'. If the exchange becomes particularly heated, they may take the issue further and threaten your cop with a wardec. DO NOT CONTACT YOUR ASSAILANT AND DEFINITELY DO NOT PAY THEM. New Order agents will revoke a permit at the slightest pretext (sometimes under no pretext at all), and there is no real appeals process. Any isk you give them - and whatever they destroy and steal from you upon permit revocation - will be gone. It's not worth 10mil.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Even by EVE standards, It's a crappy game mechanic, it's cruel and encourages psychopathic behaviour.

    ReplyDelete
  48. They are very good at warping to station, docking up, and then sperging in local about the "criminal scum" that is challenging the might of James 315.

So, it's possible, but be prepared to just station camp a lot. They will hide there and refuse to fight. If you ship has guns, they won't attack.

    ReplyDelete
  49. When you create a group that constantly cries about miners and freighters that cant fight at all, you know its a group full of pussies that just needs to be kicked out of mommy's house.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Suicide Gankers literally can't fight head on. Faction police will scram, jam, neut and kill them because are sec status is too low.

Instead, they focus on attacking the targets they can kill and avoiding the ones they can't. Otherwise they would just be feeding kills to Faction Police.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Of course they won't. There's no benefit to do so. Gank pilots are often low-SP alts, meaning they can't really fly anything but a super short range, slow-as-hell gallente destroyer - which is useless in a straight fight. In addition, even if they did choose to fight, remaining on grid for more than 30 seconds causes Faction Police to spawn, which will annihilate their puny destroyer tanks.

It's got very little to do with the fact you're trying to put up a fight, and more to do with the fact that there's literally no incentive for a ganker to do anything but gank.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Can confirm, if someone fights back, Code run and hide. It's like a retarded 10-year old punching another kid in the schoolyard; when the victim turns around to deck the kid, kid runs and climbs a tree/hides on the other side of a door and shouts incomprehensible jibberish

    ReplyDelete
  53. You can't fight CODE because they don't want fights. They will dock up as soon as something that remotely resembles a fleet shows up.

The only fight you can win against CODE is the isk one. Example: Move to null (they are afraid of it) and do your thing there.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The problem here is that youre making CODE out to be a bigger problem than they really are. Nobody makes any resistance movement because theres nothing to resist. Ive never seen a code member, they are essentially an urban legend to me and any person who pvp's has bigger fish to fry. My advice is to either join them or move out of high sec, seriously, low, null, and wh space arent as scary as you newbies make them out to be.

    ReplyDelete
  55. James is probably some kind of sociopath to have kept minerbumping up this long. The concept was hilarious when first implemented but now is just a recurring nuisance. However this is one of the more open games and I appreciate that people are having a fun time roleplaying as Highsec crusaders of some kind.

Everyone else in this thread has covered pretty much why any serious effort to resist CODE is doomed to failure long term. The playerbase that have the skills to do so have little inclination to.

Tank your fits more, check local for gank alts, and don't fly like a blind idiot in hi-sec and you shouldn't lose too many ships.

    ReplyDelete
  56. carebear = a ganker who cant pvp, so he picks up on helpless defensless miners

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Why should I have to play like everyone else?

It's not a ♥♥♥♥ing crutch. These people have trillions of ISK and can afford to just kill all the new players. There should be higher penalties for Killing in Highsec space. Currently I see no such penalties.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Actually I do have lots of support skills(combat skills) and even skills for the orca and a battlecruiser, its not that I have a problem with. It's the fact that it takes years to get anywhere, which is fine with me, but everyone starting out has a disadvantage compared to the players who have played the longest.

I played this game when it first came out, so dont tell me about learning about it. I know how to learn, and I always knew this game was about learning, lots has changed.

I just think its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t that you are pretty much forced into accepting some fu cktards ideologies in this game.

How are you supposed to start your own empire if c unts are running around killing new players that dont adhere to their contrived rules?

There should either be recourse or they need to lessen the times it takes to learn skills to be able to counter attack.

This is practically a pay to win game. There are people who have 10's of accounts. There should be somewhat of an even playing field.

    ReplyDelete
  59. as for the ganking, there IS a problem. and thast that it isnt "high levels ganking low levels", its that its high levels giving a bunch of cash to their disposable 5 day old alts to fly a catalyst and destroy with impunity anything they desire. and with how slow/weak a mining barge is compared to literally anything a ganker can and will fly, once they decide to kill you, there is very little you can do to stop it, considering even a skiff cant tank enough to make it "unprofitable" or "unjustifiable" to gank.

the problem would be solved however if a trial account wasnt allowed to turn their guns off green in highsec (since there woudl be no reason for a enw player to be doing pirating of that level in their first 14 days), that way if a "high level" player wants to use disposable characters without breaching the EULA, they have to pony up an extra 750mil or 20 bucks every 3 characters.

  65. There are many player groups in the game, doing various things with different objectives. Code is juste one group among others.
Also, I don't like how they use the name and other attributes from the Eve group and pretend they have "nothing" to do with them and act offended when they're compared, like it's pure coincidence that they have the same name (all in capital letters no less) and do the exact same thing.

James 315 has delusions of grandeur and his cult like ramblings remind me of Jim Jones of Jonestown infamy. Truly believing his own rhetoric that CODE are contributing to the betterment and growth of Eve.

His naïve guileless cult like followers have all the hallmarks of religious brainwashing. It is their personal choice to follow his ramblings, but to force through threats others to carry his "all hail James 315" mantra is beyond the pale.

The delusions are generally fantastic and typically have a supernatural, science-fictional, or religious theme. There is a relative lack of research into GD, in contrast to persecutory delusions and auditory hallucinations. According to Community Manager "CCP Wrangler" on the official forums, "Anyone found distributing or discussing decompiled client code will face an in game ban." As to how they know who's distributing the code, various reports say CCP is seeding the torrent themselves and using the associated IP to ban the related accounts. Now that's just dirty.

There's no doubt that this is a dark time for EVE, and CCP is losing sight of their own vision.

  133. It's not an ad hominem attack. It's an observational fact.

See, a necessary part of an ad hom is that I have no evidence to support the attack. If I can justify the deduction from facts at hand, it's no longer an ad hom.

I disagree, and I will choose what I believe to be the proper response. If you don't like that, I don't care.

See, in my view the long winded article full of supposition and revisionism isn't a valid debate to begin with, so I have no 'proper' response. What do you say to the guy that says the end is near? How about the sky is falling?
Right, you call them an idiot and move on.

The PROPER way to conduct this entire thing was to write an article conveying both sides and pointing out the conflict of interest between those sides. Then the rest of us could debate the relative merits and get somewhere. (somewhere = CCP still doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks)

But since this isn't debate class, I'm not bound by your rules any more than James 315 is bound by facts.

In case you aren't aware, I and many others have written volumes on this subject and you are free to go look at it. We don't all agree, obviously.

If the ultimate point here is "unban" these fine people that add content to the game. Well then I don't care and I'm done with the issue. Good luck, I hope you fail.

If, however, the ultimate point here is "gee, CCP, your GM system is all kinds of fucked up", then lets make that a CSM issue and replace the call center jockeys with people that know and care how eve works.

    I'll start.

The GM system for bans should be an open court, with players on the jury. (see RIOT tribunal system) Any banned player should have one free open court session to appeal their ban. PERMABANS should only be possible in egregious circumstances, and only if a super majority of the jury agrees. Call it the court of concord. Obviously you'd have to limit cases, because if certain activity is simply insta-bannable. RMT for example, or major boting (typically done together).

With a system like that, you end up with the EVE the players WANT. I'm not certain that I would consider that an improvement, but it will at least eliminate the question of what the players actually want. Instead of just listening to the noisy few. (cough james315 cough)

    ReplyDelete
  134. The Erotica crew were wrong. They knew what they were doing was wrong. CCP doesn't (and probably shouldn't frankly) have clear rules about where the boundaries of the game are and aren't. This leads to bans or perma-bans (can we really call it that if it lasts less than a year?) where people aren't sure why or what they did. The whole "I don't know what I did wrong cuz you didn't tell me exactly what I could/couldn't do" argument smacks of some extremely immature attempt at getting out of trouble, I think that excuse stopped working for me with my parents when I was like, 7.
The Erotica crew are mad because this gray area doesn't allow for them to operate with impunity, they want clear statements as to why they were banned.
What I got from the article was this sense and hope that if the Erotica crew's bans were explained by CCP there were would be a backlash from the EvE community akin to the monocle debacle and CCP would be forced to admit they were wrong for banning Erotica. He would be some sort of hero for reforming CCP's ways and revered/justified in what he did.
There are a couple of things that appear from either individuals defending Erotica's actions, or in Erotica's article itself that I find disingenuous.

    ReplyDelete
  135. 1) CCP needs to explain itself and why they ban people.

No, they don't. No it isn't some sort of gestapo regime if they refuse to do so either. This is a business. This is a private game that they run, not some democratic institution where you get a say in what they do. Nor is it a government responsible for your well being or happiness. Would it be nice if they explained the bans, at least to the banned players, perhaps. But the -only- vote you get as a consumer is if you want to play the game. If you don't, and I don't mean this in a snarky manner, don't play the game. A companies sole responsibility is to make money, if they're not doing this then they might change.

    2) We weren't wrong in what we did as we were never told that we couldn't. The variation of this is that "The alleged events, which you can't prove, occurred outside the game and therefore not subject to CCP's rule."

Both of these stem from the same sense that the perpetrators were somehow exempt from discipline due to some combination of either lack of clarity or jurisdiction on CCP's part over where/how the events occurred. The only part I -sort of- agree with here is the jurisdiction element. Where I think though that this crossed the line is when the Teamspeak elements were used to impact entities specifically tied to the game that CCP does have jurisdiction over. The actors used CCPs property to find the victim with the intent to cause damage to the victim within the game itself.

    3) Why didn't the victims threats (and to a broader extent all those who type variations of "hope you die") get treated in the same way as either Mittani's statements years back or Erotica's?

I think they should be. Threats shouldn't be tolerated in any sense. These individuals should be banned/suspended as well.

    4) The victim had a choice/didn't have to participate, therefor CCP has no right to ban Erotica.

This is a tough one, and I can only say this. The intent of the Erotica crew was to harm the victim. They did this, and then they bragged about it by posting the recordings of it. They knew exactly what they were doing. They like any good con artist slowly removed the victims ability to choose. Let me say this too, they're damn good. I listened to the whole recording and they chose a target smartly, the target responded to their social conditioning in the exact way that was intended, they lied and tricked the victim to get him to where he was. So the intent to harm was there. The knowledge of the harm being done was apparent. You lied and tricked the mark into a series of blind alley choices. Yes, the victim was partly to blame for not seeing this too. But you knew exactly what you were doing the entire time. You knew it was wrong, and you reveled in it.

This leads to my final remark.

CCP, even if they aren't sterling here, isn't some evil organization trampling on kittens that you want people to view them as. You acted out of malice. You wanted to hurt people, you knew you were hurting someone and this is what disgusts people. Because of this, people won't flock to your banner there won't be some grand revolt.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Actually I hope some of the victims share a country with some of the perpetrators and decide to go legal on their asses.

Honestly, I have been in EvE since 2006 and some parts of its great community have become more rotten from year to year.

I do not mind proper scams or piracy. Hell, last time a low sec gatecamp got me because of sleep induced incompetence, I paid my pod ransom, congratulated them on the well executed kill and thanked them for their service...

Yet some people in the game these days are just showing traits of mental illness.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Exactly, the real problem is that all these people who partake in questionable activities and complain about risk adverse carebears become quite carebear-ish themselves when they realize that their risking more than just pixels. They need to pull their heads out of their asses and HTFU, just like they tell so many of their targets.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Exactly. If you aren't doing something questionable in the first place, you don't care about having a hard line or a grey area, you know you aren't doing anything wrong.

The people who want a hard line set are the people who know on some level that what they're doing is wrong, but they want to have a hard line so they can find a loophole and tell themselves what they're doing is ok. It's not about avoiding mistaken bans, it's about trying to get away with something that is likely past the line and they know it.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I don't think anyone is asking for a hard line such that they could space lawyer their way out of any repercussions with a clever argument or shading of the facts. But there needs to be some way to predict in advance whether your actions are acceptable or not. If I invite you onto my comms to sing for your pod, is that a bannable harassment?

If not, wouldn't it be nice to at least have a list of examples from which one might draw inspiration, to get a sense of where the lines lay? So that I might say, it's ok to invite someone onto comms to sing for an in-game reward such as saving their pod, or getting isk, but only for a reasonably short period of time. That would give everyone something to go on, even if it's not a hard line that you could point at and try to lawyer about.

I think it would also be nice to start with temporary suspensions for issues that have never arisen and aren't the subject of any public guidance (since quoting GMs is illegal for some reason.) One might use real-world language to carve out cases that should go right to perma-ban - threats of real-world violence, for example. But if there's never been any consequence to having someone sing on comms, it's a hard nut for the very first punishment to be a perma-ban without any warning or explanation.

  140. James315 is upset because he wants to be able to do what CCP falcon wont allow.

In addition the recollection of the Erotica1/sokhar incident seems very partial according to the recollection I have of it, especially the part with the wife. And he failed to mention the repeated podding in alphaclone. So much for his credibility in his point of view about the Erotica1 copycat doing a "lighter" version of the scam, regularly asking "do you feel harassed?" to the victim, which is a clear case of GM trolling : "I did not cross the line!!!"

With this banwave, I think CCP is pretty much saying that you just cannot do this.

    ReplyDelete
  141. If it's again a guy complaining because he got perma for abusing people on teamspeak then yeah, find another game, we won't miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  142. How the hell does he even have time to play Eve if he's typing out these fucking novels?

    ReplyDelete
  143. LOL. Since when did New Order have brains?

"You may not do anything that interferes with the ability of other EVE Online subscribers to enjoy the game or web site in accordance with its rules...." - TOS 16.

Mining Permit in high sec is a scam, savagely enforced (harassment) on those new pilots who are paying for the game development and prosperity. CCP did the right thing in showing the good example.

And fyi, many have threatened of economy crashing because they were pulled out of the system previously and many more will claim same later. But that's just Griefer Tears
(hahaha!) splashed out loud trying to backfire sympathies. You bunch of
blind donkeys following J315 into perdition only lead to the bittering and non profit of the eve online community.

I hope more mittens, erotica and james get slapped out of this game.

    Ty CCP =)

    ReplyDelete
  144. Mining permits are extortion

    ReplyDelete
  145. ...then why do they allow the plethora of POCOs, player-owned structures, and whatever else to exist in their space? Do all of these things exist with CODE's blessing? Does CODE enforce a tribute payment system (a tax) in order to place and operate structures in their space?

I'm actually not [necessarily] bashing CODE here. I'm not a miner, and I've never lost anything to CODE to my knowledge. I'm simply saying, you don't truly 'own' highsec... unless and until you actually, well, 'own' it. So if structures and whatever else exist in highsec without your blessing, I would say to CODE - 'get to work.' Start enforcing your will. Back up your claims of highsec ownership. Then my hat will be off to you. Otherwise... not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Attacking player-owned structures requires a wardec. Which costs money. CODE is cheap

    ReplyDelete
  147. Seems strange that an owner of space would not charge for using that space. How many null sec corps or alliances allow people to squat in their space? You either control a space, or you don't, right?

    ReplyDelete
  148. I find it funny how the "owner" of high sec is still getting his ass handed to him by the "non owner" NPC's of the space he claims to control.

If you control it wouldn't the police be on your side and not blowing your ass up with a 100% kill rate.

    ReplyDelete
  149. CODE doesn't control high-sec. They're not even renters. They're glorified tourists roaming around selling 'maps to the stars'.

    ReplyDelete
  150. As bizarre as it sounds there are people who actually buy into all that Code malarky. But once you figure out the right ships with the right fit then Code killing is about like killing belt rats, just needs a touch more finesse.

    ReplyDelete
  151. About once a week, someone in CODE will decide the attention-o-meter is getting on the empty side, and they'll make a thread talking about CODE, and about a billion dumbasses will run up in it, all tripping all over themselves to talk about how uninterested in CODE they are.

I wish CODE would stop, but that probably won't happen until CCP declares CODE threads like AFK Cloaker threads. More than enough examples of how this entire thread will play out are available to be searched on the forms. At some point, it is okay to stop having the same conversation over and over and over again.

    ReplyDelete
  152. If you named a POCO "Autopiloting Obelisk," do you think CODE. would drop by for a visit?

    ReplyDelete
  153. I haven't touched it Dom. I still find EvE to be a bit intimidating. Plus, NITC school started.

I didn't say I had a problem with CODE, Dom. I merely said that the... Forum meta is silly, and gives the impression of a circle-jerk.

You're all fun people. You don't need the RP and associated shenanigary.

So he had to elect himself which means he is not in any capacity an elected official by the people.

    That is one mad psycho........

Never forget shardani. Our best agent.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Started mining, I've been hunted down in Highsec countless times by an alliance called "CODE" who send their -10 sec trolls into space to destroy miners. I've gone to Sinq Laision and Essence, they follow miners around blow our stuff up anywhere and run away.

I've asked for help in local chat, people respond with "This is EVE". Come on, where can a noob get a break? Ask to join an corp, denied twice. What for? I'm a 10M SP pilot who wants to contribute.

So I move my mining operation elsewhere, stuck in an NPC corp, only to be hunted down by the CODE guys again their troll corp called "New Order Logistics". I laughed hard.

Many of you guys believe that EVE-U, Noob corps and the like are helpful. Not in my books, I've constantly harassed, hunted and pursued in highsec space no matter what I do. I've lost two retrievers and two ventures in 24 hours. I've had it with ATTEMPTING to earn a living in the EVE universe, I'm honestly just starting to make money so I may progress. But nope, it's almost impossible in this game. No noob corp has helped, no noob corp has even accepted my conversation requests. Come on guys, this is me vs the universe here. The fuck is wrong with the EVE community?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Nobody wants a code agent in their corp. It is like asking if a pro wants the clap.

Get good at something and don't expect to be given anything. So stop asking for hand outs.

Miners are the toughest and most elite players in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  173. The best part of filling up this blog today was I did it while mining too.

Miners are the most elite players in the game, they can mine, be vigilant, make money, and scare the shit out of a bunch of punks who will never ever make it in low or null.

Keep em killing themselves, in game of course don't be like agent shardani.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Getting ganked twice by agents in my first week on eve (once when I was afk, the other when they swooped in on me and taught me a brutal lesson) has made my time in New Eden far more enjoyable. I will never buy a permit, but I will also never mine afk, and I will always monitor local like a hawk. Excellent work Agents. :-)
