Vote Avalloc

If you ever need help, you know where to go.

The EVE community gets routinely trashed by the Ripard Tegs of the world, but the truth is that we're all one big happy family. We stick together.

Loroseco Kross filled me in on an opportunity to help GoonSwarm's Avalloc compete for votes in the National Mobility Awareness Month Local Hero contest, sponsored by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association. The voting page may be found at this link.

According to the website, votes will be accepted through May 9th. The winners for 2014 will be announced during National Mobility Awareness Month in May.

If you get the chance, you can do a favor for Avalloc by tossing some votes his way.

Just another way the New Order and its fellow travelers show that they're Gallants, not Goofuses.

  1. I've voted every day since I first heard. Do yourself a favour though and don't read the comments on CCP's similar thread on Facebook - that people would use "grrr goons" as an excuse not to press a button on a website to help someone is really depressing.

  2. Funny how we never see any carebears doing stuff like this, the only thing they post about are their internet feelings while spewing lies and badly linked trash. More proof that they are the bad people who need to be banned and removed for the game. Keep up the good work, honorable cause.

    1. Because the people initiating Plex4Good could in no way be described as carebears, right :)

    2. Both minerbumping and Belligerent Undesirables were heavily involved in that. Chribba helped a lot too, but apart from him I saw no organized efforts coming from the carebear community.

    3. Nah, carebear efforts are more geared towards demonizing other players for torture while walking in the sunlight comparing ganking in a god damn video game to fucking rape in real life.

Or bad mouthing those who choose to participate in a game's intended features,

Honestly, who could ever want to be around these disgusting fucking husks of homosapians. They are a proof that evolution not only exists, but some times runs in REVERSE!

May the day come soon that they bring back PUBLIC EXECUTION. Like to see their foul little scumbag mouths compare their video game butthurt to real life rape then.

I suppose maladaptive traits will run rampant in a population when they aren't exposed to sufficient selective pressures. Hence the meme 'First World Problems'.

  3. Hilarious to see you retards latching onto RL generous initiatives to morally whitewash your behavior.

Hardly surprising though, in a time where everything is inverted, and internet allows for persona manipulation, to see the most angry and hateful shits pretending to be caring and good-doing individuals, and feeling for those with disabilities.

I am curious to know what this quote says about you "Anonymous". I do believe this is how you truly feel, and if that is the case, then you are pure malice, unable to separate a game from RL. You should also man the fuck up and post with your Main like real men do. Men that are convicted in their beliefs and stand behind their words.

    3. Anon 11:37am.

If you were a part of a larger community, be it null or empire you would realise this is not as rare as it might appear. There are usually appeals for help to fellow gamers which a lot of people give generously in order to show appreciation and help those less fortunate, either through bad luck or poor health.

An old corp mate of ours told us how he might be leaving the game as he and his son was being evicted from their home after suffering injuries in a car accident that wasn't his fault. As an alliance (and our 'enemies' at the time) we raised enough money that allowed him to move to a more suitable home and continue playing Eve.

Being part of the community can demonstrate the good nature of humanity that exists from all different backgrounds of people that play Eve Online, regardless of affiliation.

Your second paragraph demonstrates that you have very little ability to separate between gaming actions and real life actions. For my part the only truly angry individuals I've met are those that don't want pvp in a pvp game and refuse to adapt to the game, believing instead that the game should be adapted to them.

Thankfully there are games just around the corner that will cater to players who want to fly spaceships, which they will be able to do so while playing on their own server allowing them to chose their own rules about pvp and with fewer harsh penalties for ship destruction.

In closing, there is no morality to actions in a game that offers distinction between 'winner' and 'looser' - it'll be like playing chess where both players try not to take any of their opponents pieces.

    4. Dalto Bane - Thank you for the quote and the succinct summary of what I attempted to convey.

      Oscar Wilde is a genius.

    5. Agreed. The loving effort put into spelling RIP VILE RAT in bubbles speaks to the unity of the null community. The station I reside in is named for Sean as well. Ask two miners in the same belt who the other is, and unless it's a dual boxed alt, they won't have a clue.
It does seem to be a recurring theme that care bears lack the ability to differentiate between a game and RL. They cannot recognize obvious RP, and actually believe there is a spaceship cult we're members of.
Perhaps it's a care bear's total lack of creativity. After all, these players simply rely on being spoon fed content rather than create any of their own. Their biggest goal is to not even play Eve, to play Eve. They cannot expand beyond their own, RL boring selves, and so their character in Eve is a reflection of that soul-less, unimaginative player. RP is as foreign a concept (in an RPG) as playing with other people (in an MMO).
If care bears like to draw conclusions about NO Agents in RL based on how we act in game...then what are we to conclude about players that only stop grinding brainless PvE to cower in station? Players with a vocabulary seemingly made entirely of misspelled swear words, graphic fantasies of violent gay sex, racism and homophobia, and of course the Internet Tough Guy (tm).

    6. @SollyLama

Actually, I think I read on the EVElopedia once that part of the definition of a carebear on that site was a player that does not differentiate another player's in-game personality with their RL personality. Either that or it was defined in-game somewhere, or I inferred it.

  4. It may seem heartless, but I'm not giving someone I don't even know special attention over all the other people who have the same disability, simply because you asked me to. Nor do I feel any special connection with someone I've never even played with, just because we happen to be part of the same community. Not only is this a selfish request(you're doing it just to make yourselves feel better about the situation, not to make a difference in someone else's life), but it's downright disrespectful to the person you're supposedly doing it for by presenting him as a pity case to the rest of the world. Assholes.

    1. Until the person in question comes forward and shares his thoughts on how things are being done, nothing you said pertaining him is valid since it's based on simply your baseless opinion.

You have no evidence whatsoever concerning how he feels about this. If you don't want to support it, move along and don't push your agenda onto others.

      Delete
    2. This isn't a political debate. I don't know what "agenda" you could possibly think I have, and it doesn't matter what the person in question thinks. And since the only thing I said that could possibly be misconstrued as his opinion is the very last thing I said, I'll just assume you agree with the whole rest of the paragraph you willfully did not address. So thanks for inadvertently +1'ing me.

    3. You stated your position concerning the situation and one can't argue against a simple opinion. If that's how you feel about it, so be it. Thus, I didn't feel the need to address it.

    4. Anon 1:01pm - I guess you don't participate in any donation drive regardless of the medium as that too is an appeal for people you don't know. I guess for you charity begins at home and screw anyone else, regardless of how advancements work by trickling down to those that come later.

You also believe it's a selfish request made to promote MB.com in particular - "you're doing it just to make yourselves feel better about the situation, not to make a difference in someone else's life" - Why can't it work for both parties? Raising money is a good thing, making a difference in someone' life is also a good thing. Two good things can't possibly be wrong can they?

As for ascribing selfish reasons to the community of MB.com and Goonswarm by association; it doesn't work very well as they are attempting to make a difference for someone specific who needs and would appreciate the freedom of movement this would mean for their life.

In just a small paragraph, you have demonstrated how very little you care for humanity and yet you call those that support NO "assholes".

    5. This care bear seems to think that we all secretly feel bad for ganking miners, and need some outlet to make up for the guilt. Like bikers doing toy runs to apologize for being bikers.
What they fail to grasp is....we enjoy it. We log in to do this very thing.
We have nothing to feel bad about, we are playing this game as intended, and enjoying ourselves FAR more than care bears.

The care bear mistake is that they assign value to themselves. In their minds, they matter. In reality, they do not. They are just one of thousands of cattle grazing high sec. They are, to us, as much an individual or identity as asteroids are to miners. They farm rocks, we farm barges. Both exhibit the same level of game play.
The barge they rage and tear about losing is just one of a dozen we destroy a day. I think that bothers them the most- that it's not because they were important or threatening in any way that they were killed, quite the opposite, they are entirely disposable. Pinatas for anyone that bothered training a couple weeks of gunnery skills.

    6. Daniel Sidrat your heart is in the right place, alot of your points are valid, but please dont spew that drek about the "Trickle Down Theory". That crap has nearly destroyed my field of work and made a many Americans homeless to fund the wallets of CEO's through undeserved tax breaks and crippled wages.

    7. Eric Benner - I was thinking more along the lines of research and development, but I realise I didn't make that clear. Sorry.

Increased profits certainly don't trickle down, but that's not the subject of the post.

      Delete
    8. Clearly you have a skewed idea of what the Trickle-Down Theory is, if you think it can be applied to research. Research is more like a grove of trees, some of which are interconnected, and the people it beneficially affects are the product of said trees(fruit, nuts, etc.). This is not congruent to a visualization of the Trickle-Down Theory.

Skewed economics aside, no, I don't donate unless I meet someone firsthand who I feel is worth donating to personally. The last homeless man I befriended, I gave him money on more than one occasion(I know he bought food with it, not drugs) because not only did he not ask for it, he actually really opened up to me because I provided him something worth more than any amount of money would bring him. And that's a friend.

How many times have you actually taken a sizable chunk of your time and spent it with someone in need(excluding occupation or charities) instead of donating a couple bucks or cans of food and writing it off as your good deed for the month? I bet you never have. See, I can make irrelevant accusations, too.

    9. "Clearly you have a skewed idea of what the Trickle-Down Theory is, if you think it can be applied to research. "

So donating funds to help cure cancer that will one day lead to a cure isn't a trickle down effect. That's what I was alluding to with my comment.

While your attention to an individual is gallant, helping organisations that are geared up to help hundreds or thousands of people and families is a more efficient use of my time and energy.

Why exclude those that choose to work in the care and charity sectors? You'd lose your bet.

      Delete
    10. The main reason I don't like major charities is because it is a pretty well-known fact that in the case of many of them(Salvation Army is a good example here), a lot of the money doesn't even go where it is supposed to. There is no way of knowing your money is actually being put to the use you intended it for. I'd much rather ensure personally that it is.

I exclude people whose occupations fall in those sectors because if you are being paid to do it, it's not charity on your part. Of course, volunteer work is excluded from this.

As for Trickle-Down Theory, the money given to cancer research and such doesn't "trickle down" different tiers of research and eventually benefit all avenues of science in that particular field. It will be absorbed by a particular branch of the tree and the investment remains there until a coconut grows, falls off and knocks some unsuspecting tourist out cold(who will later thank whoever planted the tree, because he got a free coconut out of it, and coconuts are delicious).

    11. "I exclude people whose occupations fall in those sectors because if you are being paid to do it, it's not charity on your part."

Well... you can go about your job with varying levels of engagement. Simply excluding people who work in that sector because they are paid to do it... is a bit simplistic. Some of us could also earn more money by working somewhere else! :)

The way most (not all, but most) charities work is by raising money on the back of a disaster/event because it is in the public eye. While this may be a bit sour, it's done for a reason.

When disasters strike, they already have the money available, at that point it's about logistics and moving fast to help, without hindering the govt. services on the ground. So the money raised DURING a catastrophic event probably won't make it to the country/area/families however that doesn't mean they're sitting on all their cash. They will invest the monies to ensure higher returns in the future.

I believe it's law to state the percentage that actually goes towards admin/running costs so you know how much of your money is being used as aid. Generally anything lower than 10% is the norm, usually a lot less than that.

Global charities have paid staff, lots of them, some on very high salaries exceeding £100K in some cases, while I'm on the fence about that, even charities have to exist and compete in the free market, so as long as it's results driven it can be seen as an investment/reward for previous and future attainment of goals.

      Delete
    13. I'm assuming you're referring to charities in the UK. The tricky thing about charities in the US is that the laws pertaining to them often vary according to whichever state they are operating in. This makes the endeavor of finding such information about a charity an extremely difficult process, as many of them operate in various states across the country.

I suspect that the UK has an easier time documenting this information, as it is a much smaller country.

As far as the global charities' paid staff, I don't approve of salaries that high, and certainly wouldn't donate to any of them if I knew of staff salaries like that.

I have little trust or faith in the world when things like Kony2012 are allowed to happen by the idiots in today's society. I didn't donate to that garbage because I knew it was a scam. If someone can pull off a stunt like that, I'm concerned about just how much any given charity may be skimming off the top.

    14. "I have little trust or faith in the world when things like Kony2012 are allowed to happen by the idiots in today's society."

It started as an experiment to see what a video on the internet could do. It doesn't actually appear to be a scam. In fact quite the opposite as it raised awareness which led to increased pressure on the Uganda govt and NGO's who had been there for years with limited public exposure.

Also according to their audited financial statements they are doing good work.

I never actually heard of it till you mentioned it and while I haven't really had time to research the charity and the event itself from the various sources I've read it does seem to have done more good than bad.

      Which bit was the scam?

This is why I'll convince my corp to start ganking. People that cannot separate RL from a damn ingame persona deserve no respect whasoever (within EULA rulings).

    2. It should really be embarrassing for them. I've got a teenage kid in RL that mocks care bear chat logs I send to her.
Yes, you care bears are literally entertainment for my daughter. THAT is what you died for today...so my kid could then laugh at you sputtering curse words and failed insults over an internet video game. All your emotion, your rage- amounted to being laughed at by a skinny 14 year old girl.
You are oh so important, that you might die simply because she pointed at you on screen and said 'kill that one, dad, I bet he whines like a bitch'. She is rarely disappointed.
She shares chat logs with her school friends who also then mock your infantile vocabulary and obsession with violent same-sex intercourse.
While care bears like to assume we're all '12 year olds' (miner bingo!) it is actually THEM that not only sound exactly like children, but in fact are actually mocked by real children who see what gems they come up when ganked.
