You Ripard What You Sow

The controversy surrounding the ban of Erotica 1 hasn't stopped flowing--and neither has the isk stopped flowing into the New Order Treasury. From all around highsec, people are rushing to purchase an asset that can't be taken away, even if the player is permabanned. I am referring, of course, to New Order shares.

Like so many others, Matrea D has been inspired. Matrea D earns a Triple Supreme Protector's Tip of the Hat™ for sending us past the 285, 286, and 287 billion isk mark.

In addition, Lord Crevex earns a Double Supreme Protector's Tip of the Hat™ for sending us past the 288 and 289 billion isk mark. Rave Daphiti earns a Double Supreme Protector's Tip of the Hat™ for sending us past the 290 billion isk mark. We're so close to 300 billion now!

Not only has Erotica 1 not lost access to her New Order shares, she's actually increased her holdings due to EVE players purchasing them by proxy, or transferring them. I need to make clear the distinction, though. Transferring preexisting shares to another player will not count toward the "This Month's Top Supporters" tally, since it's not a new contribution. That's why only Percival Rose's 170 million isk purchase, made this month, is credited to Erotica 1 on the monthly list.

Meanwhile, Agent loyalanon and the brave Knights of the Order have been slaughtering more bot-aspirants.

Thanks to the extra cash in the Treasury, our Knights move with confidence across the battlefield and slay the beasts whose EHP once made them untouchable.

Even freighters are continuing to feel the pain. If only they knew that they had a Code that could save them--and acted upon that knowledge.

Our brave warriors have attracted the attention of more "white knights", who try to use ECM to stop the ganks. Sorry, rebels, but a Knight of the Order beats a white knight any day of the week. That's why "Knight of the Order" gets capitalized and "white knight" doesn't. Note the cowardice of Oci Osskmi, who hedged his commitment to his cause by sacrificing midslots for a weak tank instead of more ECM. Unlike our Knights, he lacked the courage of his convictions. He perished anyway.

As loyalanon said, this is only the beginning. You'll need to read the next Kills of the Week post to see more. loyalanon brought up an interesting point: Could the carebears hold Ripard Teg partly responsible for the deaths of their ships? Ripard is the blogger/CSM member who raised the ruckus about Erotica 1 and called for her permaban.

It is possible. Ripard's name is being cursed by many good citizens of highsec today, including Tora Bushido of the murderously successful Marmite Collective alliance.

The Marmites declared war against Ripard's alliance, Rote Kapelle. Rote Kapelle views itself as an elite nullsec PvP alliance, but even they bring ships through highsec. Certainly Ripard could be blamed for all of the resulting losses.

Some in the Order have taken to name-dropping Ripard Teg when they contact bot-aspirants after ganking them. An interesting example of the ripple effect! Under the circumstances, it might be appropriate for Ripard to handle reimbursements for all the lost mining/PvE ships?

There used to be nothing but Hulks before the new order.

    4. The new order responsible for hulks disappearing in game? Now that's a lie if I ever heard one. The hulk disappeared because of CCP. Now people are flying retrievers/macks because they are AFK mining friendly. I love to AFK mine. Too bad you can't police all of highsec and find me. I have yet to be ganked by the code and I violate it all the time. After the so called changes to the mining barge/exhumers, just about everyone will be flying a proc/skiff which will pretty much end highsec suicide ganking. Unless you are really willing to gank one of those.

We are strong. We are legion. The code will fail. The code will fall.

This has been another quality broadcast from your friends at Carebears United.

    5. Hello Butthurt Miner,

I didn't know who Carebears United are so I looked them up.

It consists of three members all with the same surname. It either means three alts on three separate accounts, or one account filled up, or a combination.

Bless you, but you are not We, and certainly not legion.

Please engage the miners you're attempting to protect from the Code and you'll find out how disengaged they are from the game itself. Perhaps this will enlighten you to follow The Code.

  2. Funny,...

James actually hopes to aim all the carebears are ripard teg...
That won't bring Erotica back, a nice long winded appology from erotica to ripard teg would do allot more ... ( you make players do this all the time so why shouldn't erotica?)

Also Aiming up against ripard teg on your blog ... BAD MOVE

    1. What reason would Ripard be owed an apology from Erotica? Erotica never wronged Ripard, and in fact; she was unduly slandered and banned due to his nefarious efforts.

      Delete
    2. It's really no different from Ripard aiming at Erotica on his either. In fact, it's pretty much the same as the incident with Mittens at Fanfest, a CSM member has singled out a player to be harassed by the rest of the community. Same scene, only the actors have changed.

      Delete
    3. "a CSM member has singled out a player to be harassed"

Or alternatively a CSM member has highlighted some reprehensible behaviour that needed to be called out.

It's two sides of the same coin - those who take pleasure in getting people to kill themselves etc. and those who don't.

    4. The thing is, there wasn't a problem with Erotica 1 before then, even CCP wasn't doing anything about it, a head scratcher in and of itself if they didn't at least intend to give a warning and temporary ban. And I don't doubt that Ero would have stopped if CCP had said right from the beginning it wasn't okay.

I'd like you to take a look at this article by eurogamer.com, which I have read through and through so don't bother saying I haven't: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-01-was-ccp-right-to-ban-this-eve-online-player

      Delete
    5. So highlighting such problems is OK. Cool. But you disagree with CCP's punishment. Sounds fair enough providing you drop the "singling out a player to be purposefully harassed" nonsense.

      Delete
    6. Ripard still did single Erotica out, there's no ifs ands or buts about it. What I'm pointing out is that there was in fact very few who knew he even existed and suddenly they wanted Ero gone and not want to listen to any other side of the story. What I see in that is taking a demagogue's word as the word of God when there's more to the story than their side of it.

I don't disagree with the punishment, I just disagree with the fact that CCP at any time could have said they didn't want that happening and put a stop to it.

    7. Alistair Drake,

So erotica singled out a whole lot of people... now that it happened to erotica it s big deal to you, You have no values. If you think that erotica stands above her victims you clearly need to take a deep look at your personality.

And before you go this is a game not RL. In a game you WILL ALWAYS reflect who you really are or really want to be.

Erotica has been a good supporter tot he code she has been and people will carry the name for a while, yet erotica pushed the line clear and simple.

So if somebody would start following you around in even and messing with you for 2 hours you could report him/her. simply crossing the line is it. then its over get over is cry about it and hope CCP changes their minds.

From all European standards what happened to erotica is justice,
The code is about justice Stop crying about it.
Justice was served just as it was served to many bots and bots aspirants.

There is no permit for being an ass on the internet.
Thats just the person, that not role playing thats being an asshole, but geuss whats this is an opinion and opinions are like assholes everybody's got 1.

Feel free to spend your Code tears on this mather id love me some code tears

    8. Go read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex_post_facto_law Thats the problem we are having with it. What erotica1 was doing was ok until it wasnt. Then the ban hammer fell without reason or warning. Go check out the character "mrs mayo" on the forums, she was posting for about a month before Ripard got involved. CCP had petitions going in against Er1 and ignored them all.

They knew what was going on, then only decided it wasnt ok after Ripard whipped up a lynch mob. You dont have to support CODE to start thinking "erm if I can be banned retrospectively for any reason if I piss off a popular figure in game, should I invest any more time or money into this? might I be better off in another game instead?"

Its not just tears, these are legitmate concerns. We need to know the truth! We can handle it! Can you?

    9. Hello Nightgerbil,

I love reading about Eve Online, at one point I enjoyed playing Eve too. Then I realised I was having more fun talking to corp and alliance people via out of game services and got bored with the shallow game mechanics of Eve.

I was looking forward to the summer patch too, but until they add content, or reiterate the ten year old mechanics that allow for too much AFK it will still be the same reason I'll quit again in a month or two, so why bother I ask myself? Sure I miss the guys and gals I used to fly with, but not enough to submit to the depressing grind that Eve can be.

On the subject of being banned for an event two + months old that few people knew about until a CSM member who already had brought up the subject to CCP and didn't get the result he wanted - well that's another nail in the coffin of Eve.

I created my character in 2005 and now with 120+ M skill points if I ever consider returning to Eve it will be for one reason and one reason only. To provide an alternative to Eve Uni - help new players understand the full game including the meta game. My first CEO fired rockets in to our mining ships while doing corp and personal mining, if the ship was lost it was our responsibility for not tanking and paying attention. Those players learnt fast. It will also be war deccing the corporations founded by characters who should never be CEO's in the first place - there will be plenty of them still around.

Having game goals like that requires effort and time that I don't have at the moment, but when I do, I wonder if non-consensual PvP in empire will still be allowed.

    3. How about you take a look at the definition of holding territory LSM, if an organization can enforce its will through action (ganking and bumping for NO) then it effectively owns that territory. SOV as you put it, isn't required as per the game's mechanics.

And do you really think some of those entities in the sov map own what they own through their own ability? Some of them are renters, or they are there because a bigger alliance allows them to be there.

      Delete
    4. Maybe if you looked up on the top left of you're screen you'll see who owns the current system. In the case of CODE, it's NPC Empires. Sorry, you don't own shit. You can only bully around miners, freighter pilots, and AFK people. You have no direct influence on manufactures, PI industrialists, station traders, or market players (Yes you can gank their freighter, but that is not messing with what they do while they are doing it; ie you can't stop a manufacturer from manufacturing in a station). So since you can only influence a minority of High Sec dwellers and alts, and the ones you do influence are the stupid ones or the unfortunate ones, can you really call that owning the place? When I say manufacture a ship in high sec, do I feel any pressure from CODE? Are you taxing me, charging run costs? No the station owner is. When I haul some stuff I bought in a Tayra or Ity V, do i feel any pressure from CODE? Nope. Mission run? Not a lick of CODE. In fact, if I were to come to a logical solution, I'd say that CODE doesn't own anything. So, when you carebears in disguise figure out you're not a real threat, nor a force to be reckoned with, let me know

~LSM, someone who understands what Sov means in EVE, be it NPC or player

      Delete
    5. Actually, ganking miners means less minerals go on the market, which means the smarter industrialists make more money where the NO is operating. So the Code does in fact affect market players and other economic PVPers.

Also, I think you don't understand the true reach of the metagame in EVE. Player groups can stake a claim anywhere they want, provided that they are willing to put the effort in to enforce it. How do you think countries IRL do it, there's certainly no handy little blurb on the top left of the screen for them. This certainly holds true in some nullsec sectors, just ask around, sov isn't limited to the screen.

Also, I believe you've said you're a nullsec inhabitant LSM, so why do you even care what goes on in highsec? If you don't mind me asking.

      Delete
    6. Not what I meant. You can't stop a manufacturer from manufacturing. You can alter his profits on a very limited scale, but you can't stop him.

So if you think you own the territory then you are more closely related to a gang in LA. You 'own dez streetz' but you don't actually own it, the city of Los Angeles does, you're just the local bullies with a superiority complex or something.

The fact you are destroyed by CONCORD and the local police is another thing. The game mechanics of EVE means you're all criminals and thugs, and deserve to be and often are able to be shot on sight. It's fun really, snagging a CODE on the undock and watching the cops rip his fail fit ship apart

And stop with the IRL stuff. Of course there isn't an indicator in my eye. This is EVE not IRL, and in EVE, you don't own shit
