How a MinerBumping Post Is Made

There's no question that MinerBumping is a unique blog. In the world of gaming, there's nothing else quite like it.

MinerBumping is vital to understanding highsec. It also profoundly touches the lives of carebears who otherwise might drift through EVE without the slightest interaction with their fellow players.

Even a few minor mentions on the blog can change a carebear's trajectory. JackFrost Saissore was barely mentioned, but it altered his EVE experience forever (for the better, no doubt).

But how are MinerBumping posts created? What should an ambitious new Agent do to get featured on a post? Does MinerBumping reflect the truth of highsec, or should it leave the reader thinking, "meh, seems made up"? Today you'll get a rare, behind-the-scenes exclusive look at how an Agent report becomes an essential piece of EVE history.

Kills of the Week posts, of course, consist of the most obvious building blocks. Agents frequently send me killmails throughout the week. I review these and do some independent searching of New Order killboard stats, and then the magic happens.

Then there are Agents who send in full-fledged field reports. Sometimes an Agent will send in material along with a narrative to make it easier to follow. Other times, the logs are self-explanatory. The two most common tools used by Agents to report on their Code enforcement activity are Imgur for hosting screenshots, and Pastebin for hosting chat logs.

Although screenshots are preferred in most situations, sometimes they're not available. Luckily, the EVE client logs all chat, and the text is easily hosted in a Pastebin log.
Zosius > bio is on, you are free to go
Ellie Alvarsson > I'm actually astonished how terrible of people you are
Ellie Alvarsson > honestly
Ellie Alvarsson > I assume you put a screenshot of it on your website
Ellie Alvarsson > to show off the people you humiliate and steal from
From there, I simply grab the text as needed, cut off the timestamps, and modify the formatting for maximum readability.

As for screenshots, they may be uploaded as a single image, such as the ones you see in a Grab Bag post. If there's more than one screenshot, they may be uploaded to a small album on Imgur...

...Or, in the case of even longer conversations, a large collection of screenshots may be compiled. Then comes the editing task. As Saviour of Highsec, it is my duty to break down all of the emergent content and pare it down to easily digestible quantities.

And, of course, the most relevant portions must still be chopped up in such a way that I can interject my own thoughts after the reader takes each "bite". After all, people come to MinerBumping not only to see the truth, but also to be instructed on how best to think about the truth.

What about the integrity of this process? Should a carebear be taken seriously if they, like a reality TV villain, complain about getting a "bad edit"?

It's rare, but it occasionally happens. When a carebear presents a full log for review, it inevitably backfires. My job is straightforward: All I need to do is tell people the truth--that the CODE always wins.

    1. Seems like anonbear was waiting on the edge of his seat for the latest minerbumping post. I would say the Code is winning after all :p

  2. The most amazing thing about Minerbumping is that James 315 never has to lie. Everything that he posts on here is the solid gold truth- you can't make these kind of posts up.

    1. No, the most amazing thing about minerbumping is the crap you can pull out of your rear and proclaim as being solid gold.

    2. Funny.. If I found a news site that I believed posted absolute crap and was not true (ex. Fox News).. I would stop visiting the site. Instead; you visit several times a day.
I think that you secretly admire the Code and wish that you were one of us. Do not be shy, anonbear. Anyone can stop being a Goofus and become a Gallant.
Would you like to buy a mining permit?

    3. But buying a permit and becoming part of code would mean i would become goofus. Who in their right mind would want to become like ming?

  4. Everyone knows the Supreme Protector is infallible, including His blog posts. It's great to see a little hint on *how* He maintains that infallibility.

  6. Everyone knows the Supreme assaulter is NOT infallible, including His blog posts.
It's great to see a little hint on *how* He maintains that level of BS.

    3. Lol.. you even messed that one up. Anonbear, stick to trolling amazon.com reviews. Minerbumping seems to be a bit too sophisticated for you :(

    4. obviously the idea that i was mocking your correcting me went right over your head there nitetime.
Its ok, you are code after all, tis expected.

    5. You mean "it's" expected. This carebear couldn't spell correctly if you hit it with a dictionary, which ironically enough, is what Agents have indeed tried in the past.

Or it was trying to speak in some "old English" style, which just goes to show you that it thinks it's some kind of hipster.

    6. Doesn't change the fact that you fail at even the simplest of trolls (mockery). While we appreciate you being a fan of Code and being a regular visitor to our blog; it may be better for everyone if you stick to an easier blog.

    7. Sure.. call it a "bait". Whatever helps you sleep at night. Would you like to buy a mining permit?

      Delete
    8. No thanks. I would offer to sell you a clueless permit, but I see you already have one.

    9. minger expressing it's diplomacy yet again i see, someone should give it a lesson in doing itself a favour and keeping it's mouth shut for once.

we all know of it's opinions already, it talks a good fight but nothing more.
      (wholesale slaughter ....indeed )

  13. Hey! CODE! Yeah, you guys over there!

I can clearly see that you share some of my former ignorance about your mission. While two brains may be sharper than one, that only applies when both actually work. The same is true about many brains coming together, only one of which functions. One mind in a throng is still just that -- just one functioning mind. I come here, sincerely hoping that this is not the case.

Before I get done with my half-insane, half-genius spiel, I must inform you of the fact that I know and which you are ignorant of, my good friends.

The worst bots are not in high security space, nor were they ever. What you do only scratches the surface of the general mining community, and even your pointed efforts are wasted on what are mostly legitimate people trying to scratch a living off rocks.

The worst botters are in null security space, where there is to be found the most profit. If you truly wish to make a real impact on the botting world of EVE Online, then do it to those who make the most out of their greed and gluttony...

    Not on the actual carebears.

    1. Why would they go to *gasp* nul sec? There are people there with guns! Dont you know anything about code yet? They only fight those who cannot fight back, like unarmed barges and freighters.

      Delete
    2. code is not interested in doing anything that actually benefits eve or the eve community.
they just want to kill newbies and the clueless, if they were to go to null and actually try the stuff they do in high sec they would get their asses handed to them, and they know it, so they stay in high and kill newbies because it's easy.

plus everyone in null is apparently "code compliant " even the bots.
this actually means code knows they have guns and can pvp so code would die in a fire lol thats what "null is code compliant " really means lol.
