The Man Who Didn't Know When to Comply, Part 1

"No miner left behind." That's not just a catchphrase; it's something the New Order lives by. We understand that not every carebear learns at the same pace. Some quickly embrace the Code and are rewarded for it. Others resist our Agents' teachings--and suffer a terrible fate.

Meet Cody Fayden. He's a casual gamer with little patience for multiplayer interaction and PvP. Somehow, he made his way to EVE and thought it was a great fit for his style of play. After more than four years in the game, he made first contact with the New Order this April when Agent Ilithyia Borgia ganked his 404 million isk Hulk.
Don'tShoot ImBlue > Cody Fayden bought 6 ore strip miners off me. I don't have the time to hunt him down, so you guys can have at him if you want
Lament von Gankenheim > sounds great
Don'tShoot ImBlue > o7
Cody didn't learn his lesson. Indeed, his taste for expensive mining equipment only grew when he was forced to replace the Hulk. Luckily, the emergent gameplay community is well organized. Don'tShoot ImBlue of the Belligerent Undesirables broadcast the news that a "problem miner" was in the making.

Agent Nicolas Dupre took it upon himself to become the carebear's sponsor. No matter how many relapses Cody suffered, Nicolas would keep him accountable. He would cure Cody of bot-aspirancy.

Within two days, our hero located Cody and caught him in the act of illegal mining. Nicolas spared no expense. Cody, despite being a 4-year player, was shamefully mining ore in a 0.9 security system. The only way to gank Cody was to use a Talos. But it was well worth it; Cody's decadent 862 million isk Mackinaw was terminated.

Thanks to Don'tShoot ImBlue's intel, Nicolas knew that Cody still had a few more ORE Strip Miners in his possession. Sure enough, Cody was up to his old tricks the very next day. Nicolas lacked the firepower to suicide gank Cody this time, so he sent an alt, I Feel Sick, to submit a blank application to join Corporationen sind nicht so mein Ding ("Corporations aren't really my thing").

He was accepted immediately.
Channel changed to Corp : Corporationen sind nicht so mein Ding
Cody Fayden > hi
Cody Fayden > ah fuck ... ich habs mir gedacht
I Feel Sick > Ja :P
I Feel Sick > Haben Sie kein Englisch sprechen?
Cody Fayden > i can try
I Feel Sick > fI was considering holding you for ransom but decided not to :)
Nicolas' alt tackled the carebear's new Mackinaw. Under the circumstances, he felt the miner did not deserve the opportunity to pay a ransom.

What about the nerf to awoxing, though? When Cody accepted I Feel Sick's membership application, he set friendly fire to illegal. However, in the quest to make highsec safer, CCP put a mandatory 24-hour timer on any changes to the friendly fire settings. This was meant to prevent reverse-awoxing. The awox of Cody's 929 million isk Mackinaw occurred during the 24-hour period.
Cody Fayden > aha
Cody Fayden > ey solche hurensohne
Treachery! While friendly fire was still legal, Cody decided to strike back at the young awox alt. Cody undocked a Tengu and tackled his corpmate. (Per Google Translate, "ey such whores without".)

I Feel Sick was no match for the Tengu. His tank couldn't hold, not even with the support of Nicolas Dupre's remote-repping Augoror. However, Cody wanted revenge on Nicolas, too, and he aimed to destroy the neutral Augoror before finishing off his corpmate. Because Nicolas had ganked Cody's Mackinaw the day before, Cody had a kill right on him. The Tengu opened fire.

...without actually activating the kill right. CONCORD immediately stepped in and assisted our Agents in enforcing the Code. Cody's Tengu was destroyed; I Feel Sick and Nicolas Dupre were victorious. The Code always wins.

It was another punishing loss for the carebear. Cody's Tengu was worth 1.3 billion isk.
I Feel Sick > Nearly didn't make it in time :)
Cody Fayden > yeah ganker... go and fuck your mom
I Feel Sick > You're the one who ganked just now ;)
I Feel Sick > You went criminal with your tengu :)
Cody Fayden > yeah sure ... you against a miner ... uhhhh you are soo hard
Cody witnessed the power of the Code firsthand. The futility of expensive ships and modules had been displayed for all to see. There was no use in resisting the New Order. Would Cody comply, or would he need to suffer even more excruciating losses?

To be continued...

  2. Ok, that was just too funny. Remember kiddies... always activate those kill rights before you shoot. LOL

    1. in my opinion flying a billion isk mining barge just to squeak out that little extra amount of yield is criminal. Seriously... When your fit is worth nearly 10 times the cost of the hull there is a serious problem.

Unfortunately for our carebear in this case he is a very slow learner...

    2. Even though I disagree with gankers usually, Asia Leigh has a point. One hell of a point at that. I'm gonna take it one step further and just say that the Hulk is pure shit. If you're flying anything other than a Procurer/Skiff outside safe territory (friendly nullsec), you're seriously asking for it.

    3. Just to nitpick... the cost of a tech2 fit for a basic tech1 frig is often more than 10 times the hull price.

      But your point still stands.

  4. Ok I'll bite. Say your correct Anon7:43. You are not... but for shits & giggles lets say you are.

    So?

Same mechanic as it is in Null or Low. If you choose not to comply with demands from someone holding blasters to you, then you have to deal with the consequences or kick their ass. That's EVE.

Crying on a blog that "Whaaaaa whaaaa! Their pirates! Sob! Whaaaa" is not really going to get you anywhere in this game. I know people like you try... "lets cry to CCP because if they don't change the games to suit my needs I'll un-sub, bla bla bla" but that approach has not really worked... you can keep trying, it's your time to waste, but you should really, maybe, just let your balls drop, grow up, grab a PVP fit ship, and just go to town on your nearest agent. I bet you will have fun doing so.

Just saying.. you know, cause it's a spaceship internet MMO blow ships up kind of game.

    1. Do this - the Agent will likely give you advice and if you turn up and give it your best, you could be given hull, mods and ammo to try again.

Suffice to say it will be the most engaged you've been in the game for a while, and you may just have fun if you allow yourself to do so.

    2. Or find a person who likes PvP, and pay them to do it for you. Or find newbies, and instead of inducting them into some kind of ponzi scheme where you take their money, give them ships and guns and tell them who threatens their benefactor. Obviously, they'd lose ships to inexperience and the dangers of combat, but the investment pays off when they're mature PvPers with a reason to think well of you.

If you have a problem with CODE, then there are ways to deal with it (in game) that are acceptable, even if you don't really feel like fighting.

    3. Hey Colonel, here's a shocking revelation: The only reason CCP hasn't sodomized every Code agent with the banhammer is that the carebears haven't carried out their threats of boycotting CCP because they love this game too much to stop playing it.

    4. @Anon2:46
In other words, the only reason that Code hasn't been banned, is because they haven't done anything wrong.

      Delete
    5. the only reason code has not been banned is because of a clever invention called a "permit" without it code does not exist.

You can thank CCP for that - they're the ones that said we had we had to have a finacial motive. They approved the permit concept before it was first unleashed on a grateful highsec. The Code, however, existed before the permit.

    8. no permit no code (you got lucky) even ccp said what you do was griefing without the permit (one of the biggest mistakes ccp ever made )

    3. not to mention the machinaws too. What I find funny, is that this idiot lost another exact fit 850m Machinaw the same week after the above ganks happened. You would think he would have learned after the first or second time....

After his first Moa loss, there is literally no loss mails on his killboard that is under 400m isk...

And this is what happens to those who refuse to adapt. They die, and since in game they can die more than once... they do so repeatedly.

As a PvE'er myself, words cannot express the shame this guy brings to the community. To kill a cheap ship, use another that is superior to it. Bedazzling everything in faction mods only draws your enemies in crowds instead of driving only one away from your enterprise.

In New Eden, if you fight like an idiot, expect to die like one. I've learned that lesson more than once. Hopefully by my own losses, I can properly teach the newbros how to properly defend themselves with dignity.

  11. Okay, while I don't condone ganker assholery, this was freaking hilarious. 4 year player and didn't activate the kill right when attacking with a 1.3 billion Tengu. G fucking G.

Since I'm a bit confused about this, could an agent define "bot-aspirancy"? I know what bot mining is, but I'm not familiar with that term.

    2. We're not assholes, we're doing a public service. We bring player interaction to those who do not regularly experience it. Yes, that means we may force it upon them, but this is Eve, where you do not get to opt out of PVP. It's for their own good, anyways. It's only through willful ignorance and isolation that a 4 year "veteran" player would not know that he needs to activate killrights or tank his barge--the New Order is the solution to this problem.

      Delete
    3. I like how Order agents claim they're doing a public service, but they will only jump at the opportunity to preach their self-righteousness rather than answer a serious question.

    4. "Bot aspirancy" is exactly what it says on the tin. It is the condition of aspiring to be more botlike in action. Bot-aspirants aim for peak efficiency of isk collection to the detriment of the game and themselves. It is the disease to which The Code is the cure.

Please check the links page for a complete list of James 315's writings on the subject. Don't depend on an Agent to answer questions that you can easily find the answer to yourself with a modicum of effort.

    5. Okay, thank you very much for telling me to check the links page. I did, reading only part of "How highsec miners threaten EVE" opened my eyes.

  12. We think Cody would have an easier time of it in Hakeri, We did have GOAT RAVISHER and cohort hanging around Josekorn for a while yesterday, not sure how much stuff they donated to the entrenched population. They were rather quiet in local though, I was thinking they would scream James name in local and demand a 10mill payment but nope, not a word. Rather ineffectual as agents if you ask me. Maybe you should train your agents how to interact with other players in a system instead of being bot aspirant and hiding in stations all the time. Panorad will not comply with CODE.

    1. ^This. Agents at this point are killbots. All they care about is ruining someone's day, not helping people change.

    2. As has been said many times before, Code Agents' enforcement actions are entirely discretionary upon the Agents' own assessment of the mining threat in New Eden. Being perfect, Agents only converge on the "important systems," and leave the "unimportant systems" for other gankers to enforce.

If "your" system is not currently being actively patrolled by New Order Agents, then it is because your mining activity is simply not important enough to be acknowledged by the New Order at this time, nor warrant a larger New Order presence. "Small fish," as the FBI calls them.

    3. Is there a good reason to complain about being left alone when that's what you want? I can't think of one, and so I'm inclined to think you're trying to manipulate events.

I have spoken to a few CODE agents. Some briefly, and some for longer periods of time. Not every one had perfect behavior, but pretty darn close. None of them were downright mean.

I have been threatened. I have been asked to buy a permit. However, I have also asked questions about the game or its systems and I've gotten polite answers. I've talked to one about movies, and another was more interested in philosophy. Agents are interactive, even fun to talk to.

Agents don't have to enforce the code at all times. They aren't obligated to act. They could be taking a break from enforcement, busy with other things, or they may be acting in ways you simply don't understand because you don't know what's happening on their screen, who they're talking to, or what their objective is.

There's nothing wrong with these people. They're just playing a video game and want other people to realize that. EVE is a dangerous place for virtual space ships. Put on those virtual sunglasses and deal with it. :3

    4. "small fish" an apt description of code too

    5. See, this is what I don't get. Someone who has publicly said they don't support us, and tries to fight us, gets what we are trying to do. Why can't the average "carebear" that shit posts and trolls on this forum figure it out.

I mean seriously? I counted 6 or 7 mining barges this guy lost, all of them over 400m isk and most of them closer to 1B. You can't have a record of flying loot pinata's all the time and not expect to be hunted down by the rest of the EVE population.

I mean damnit even hardened carebears would have jumped in catalysts to get on most of these Killmails...
