What Was X-FEANOR Thinking?

X-FEANOR is quickly becoming the most famous freighter pilot in highsec. He's certainly the most watchlisted. According to his zKillboard stats, X-FEANOR has lost 148 billion isk in the last year. Astonishingly, that figure comes from only 29 losses, giving X-FEANOR a 5 billion isk average loss. No wonder he's attracted so much attention.

X-FEANOR first appeared on our radar with his extravagant pod losses, such as this one, which was worth around 10 billion isk at the time.

In the past month, he has only gotten worse. On August 23rd, he lost a 14.75 billion isk freighter. Then, on September 5th, he lost two freighters worth 12 billion isk each. A week later, he lost a 7.5 billion isk freighter and a 5.2 billion isk pod. Why he feels the need for 5 billion isk worth of implants to AFK autopilot in a freighter, one can only guess.

However, Agent Aaaarrgg was not satisfied with guessing. He wanted answers from the bot-aspirant himself. Eventually, Aaaarrgg was able to get into contact with X-FEANOR through the Anti-Ganking channel, where Ilia Kovalchuk--believed to be X-FEANOR's main--frequently resides.

The first question was an obvious one. It's a question any economically rational person would want to ask:

...Namely, why not buy a permit with the cost of 10 million isk per year, rather than losing 148 billion isk per year?

X-FEANOR revealed that he is in possession of 200 billion isk. Even if true, he has lost a decent percentage of his wealth through ganks.

(Russian greatness is a surprisingly common consolation for carebears who suffer big losses.)

But if X-FEANOR wasn't willing to obey the Code for economic reasons, he should at least do it for my sake, for the sake of the Saviour of Highsec. Right?

X-FEANOR wouldn't listen. For some reason he's not a big fan of mine.

On September 20th, X-FEANOR was back to his old tricks...

In a single day, he suffered three multi-billion isk losses. After the first freighter loss, he sent this explanation to our Agent:

X-FEANOR spends lots of money on PLEX for isk. He uses the isk to buy expensive freighters and implants... to try to accumulate more isk. When he fails, he buys more isk with PLEX.

So if you ever wonder what was X-FEANOR thinking, I guess you have your answer.

  1. I would just look at it as willing donations to CODE and his willingness to help train Gankers. It's the only reason that makes sense.

WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?! Is he trying to do a smiley or what?

    1. Meet the Russian smiley. The more brackets you write, the more joyful you appear to be.

    2. That would be, as Agent S says, the Russian smiley. As far as I know, they became popular because : is hard to reach on Russian keyboards, so they typed ) instead of :). The ) then morphed into )))))))) because of Russian greatness.

    3. Russian smiley, best smiley.

  3. Now that's a guy you have got to tip your hat too. This is someone who thumbs his nose at the new order and just flat does not care. Kinda stupid and naive, but you have to admire his principles.

As much as I don't like the new order and what it stands for, at some point, one should take them up on their offer, if not on principle, then on economic reasons. Considering the amount of ISK that he has practically given away to the new order, maybe some NO agent would be kind enough to just give him a permit.

  4. but why doesn't antiganking stop the ganks?

    1. The antigankers are shit and think an ECM tristan will stop us... Nope. Gotta do better than that.

  5. He probably has trillions and gets a laugh from all of this

I also think the CODE would still shoot him even if he had a permit.

  6. How about some blog entries where a mining permit actually prevented a multi-billion isk freighter from getting ganked?

    1. "We found a freighter. He had a permit and was compliant so he continued on his way safely."

Would you keep coming back to read that every day?

    2. They will always find an excuse to label said freighter pilot as a "bot aspirant" and destroy it anyways. If CODE actually did what they said, I think it would add more depth to the rp aspect of the game and a level of richness to it.

It would be interesting to have a thread on the Eve fourms called: "Has a permit actually saved your ship?"

    3. As you might know, the full statement runs something like this: if you buy a mining permit AND FOLLOW THE CODE, you will not be bothered by agents. Buying a permit is only the first step. You must also follow the code, not just the written document only, but also the idea, the way of life.

Including but not limited to: always be at keyboard, check local, fly safe, don't fly what you can not afford to lose, undergo every step to protect yourself. If one follows the Code, one will not be harmed, because he will easily avoid interference such like bumps and ganks.

You could now say: why then bother with buying a permit in the first place? Well, you can see it as a first step towards complience. Or, if you already know how to properly defend yourself and, generally, know how to play the game, a mining permit is a pledge of honor toward the ideas of the Code. And it is only 10M a year!

    4. No permit would save the sorts of freighters X-FEANOR loves to fly. Excessive hauling (in terms of either volume or isk value) is itself bot aspirant behavior and would render any displayed permit invalid. The gallant hauler never overloads his or her freighter and has little to fear from high sec gankers. The permit bridges the gap between having little to fear from the New Order and having nothing to fear.

  7. I actually LOL'd IRL when I read this: "Russian greatness is a surprisingly common consolation for carebears who suffer big losses"

Maybe he should just hand it over so James can debit it directly to save all this hassle.

  8. Be advised: this individual 'X-FEANOR' is unarmed and extremely bot-aspirant!
