Once upon a time, the world of EVE was filled with the names of giants who shaped the game's history. Their names were known far and wide. Over the years, however, most of them disappeared and faded into obscurity. Players who joined EVE in the past few years have never even heard their names. And the nullsec content drought of the past two years has all but erased the remaining giants from EVE's consciousness.
Now there is one name in EVE that has more power and which excites more passion than any other.
There's a name that strikes like a thunderbolt whenever and wherever it is spoken.
It's a name of great controversy, great polarization. Sharper than any sword, it immediately cuts a crowd of any size into two camps: For and against.
Agents of the New Order live among the masses in highsec, where the vast majority of EVE's population dwells. They need a way to find the bad people and punish them. Often, merely mentioning the name is enough to get them to reveal themselves.
Good people, decent people, smile and nod approvingly when they hear the name. It makes them cheer. Everyone else is driven to anger and stupidity.
It's extraordinary: If you want to know what sort of fellow someone is, simply ask him his opinion about--scratch that, simply speak the name and he'll undoubtedly volunteer his opinion.
Some "concerned citizens" tell our Agents to distance themselves from the name and the cause that goes with it. "You don't want any part of that Code stuff," they say.
Ask them to explain why, and they'll unintentionally persuade you of the opposite.
Do the rebels actually have any logical arguments on their side? Let's ask them.
On occasion, they'll try to come up with something, but it never works.
Press them further, and they collapse like a house of cards.
Like it or not, one name in EVE has stood the test of time. The opposition failed. They tried to ignore it, they tried to erase it. They tried to belittle it and defame it. Nothing worked.
Now they can only accept its supreme authority.
The face that belongs to this name is the most recognizable face in EVE history. This is a post about the name, yet I didn't even say it. Didn't have to.
You know the name. So does everyone else.
And it will live forever.
