Bizarro EVE, Part 1

Brace yourselves. Today you're going to get a glimpse of another world, another realm. One in which black is white, right is wrong, and up is down. I'm speaking, of course...

...of the Anti-Ganking channel. It is a troubling place. From within this channel, the perspective of EVE is so twisted as to make the game almost unrecognizable. If you dare to step through the portal, your only consolation is the company of fellow New Order spies.

At first, the carebears of Anti-Ganking feel familiar. They're spouting hate and nonsense about the New Order, just as any bot-aspirant would after being ganked.

But when the rebels gather into groups, their misguided beliefs echo off of each other, creating a most bizarre culture. For instance, according to the Anti-Ganking view, Agents of the New Order are vulgar in local, and the carebears are polite and respectful.

In addition, AFK miners and carebears who do the same mission over and over are seen as thoughtful, creative individuals. The New Order Agents are "brainwashed zombies". The whole world is inside out!

The rebellion is continually strangled by paranoia. They see spies everywhere. At the slightest provocation, they will accuse each other of being New Order Agents. Protip: Carebears, our spies are the ones you don't suspect. You're better off kicking people at random than trying to do counter-intel.

Just when you think you're getting a handle on things, the twisted environment knocks you for another loop. Miners claim to enjoy ganker tears. And they believe the game mechanics are heavily stacked in favor of risk in highsec. They probably think CCP has been buffing suicide ganking all these years!

Anti-Ganking can be a depressing place. It's not easy to be around people who lose every battle, day after day.

Later, the rebels discussed news of New Order Agents being permabanned by CCP. If I were banned, would it make a difference? Rebels disagree.

MinerBumping comment troll Veers Belvar strongly believes the entire New Order should be banned. In his opinion, we don't actually play EVE; we merely "harvest tears". Why would we go to the trouble of harvesting something that falls from the sky freely in buckets every day? That's like saying people go to Jita to harvest contract links from spammers.

Some rebels suggest the existence of the New Order gives them something to fight instead of red crosses. But in the view of the extremists, fighting back only legitimizes us. Apparently a lot of carebears agree, because hardly anyone fights back.

A strange place, indeed. If a carebear stays there long enough, he loses his connection to reality. A rebel can become so far gone that he thinks all the rational people have lost their connection to reality! Is there any escape? Can the New Order still save a bot-aspirant who gets caught up in a place such as this?

To be continued...

    2. I think Mr. Belvar meant "Retriever", which is a breed of dog. Finally Mr. Belvar's anger at the New Order is explained: he doesn't realize that Retrievers are also a ship type in a game called EVE Online, and he thinks that the New Order are going around killing dogs. What a hilarious misunderstanding.

    2. Tears? Ha! Accurately diagnosing the maladies that affect CODE, and CCP apparently agrees, is not tears! And I don't care if people don't like what I'm saying, I will continue to preach the truth. As opposed to DJ who will be saying nothing because he was banned for harassment. So if James 315, or The Mittani, or Loyalanon, or DJ, or Tippia, or Gorilla don't like what I got to say - too bad....free speech still applies in Eve, and I cannot be silenced so easily.

    4. AG is not "my team." I am part of team Veers. Sometimes I agree with AG, sometimes I agree with CODE, but I always agree with myself. And I happen to always be right as well. It was not a "rage log," Gorilla muted me for 10 minutes, afterwards I had nothing to say to him - I tend to ignore censors. And that was that. I've never even been closed to enraged by Eve, its just a stupid game, lolz.

    5. Log out Veers, run away from the issue, nice logic.

    6. There was no issue. I made my points, others responded, and the conversation ended. The same thing I do every day on the comments on this pathetic website, and the same thing I do on the Eve Forums. It's all about exposing the nastiness and hypocrisy of the suicide ganker folks.

    7. "It's all about exposing the nastiness and hypocrisy of the suicide ganker folks."

      To what end?

      Delete
    8. To demonstrate their true nature and agenda to CCP, which will hopefully take appropriate corrective action. For example James 315 accepted assets during an Erotica1 bonus round, DJ was banned for the same, why has James 315 not been banned?

      Delete
    9. "To demonstrate their true nature and agenda to CCP, which will hopefully take appropriate corrective action."

And what is the end result you're going for by having CCP ban some guys? You're giving me proximal tactical answers, I'm looking for the larger goal here.

      Delete
    10. I.e., what's the end result where you say "OK, I achieved my goal, I'm done posting here and on the forums about this, time to find a new game or a new goal". Clearly getting some dudez bannedzored was not your goal, as you're still going strong. Also, getting dudez banned doesn't work as a final goal as it is tactical and not principled in nature; so I'm looking for an answer that satisfies both conditions.

      Delete
    11. When I stop enjoying myself! In the alternative, when CODE disbands, and no organization in Eve is suicide ganking for tears and emotional humiliation anymore. At that point it would be mission accomplished.

      Delete
    12. So one could shorten and clarify your statement to read : my goal is to convince CCP to abolish suicide ganking; to make highsec a complete nonaggression zone. That's a tactical goal. What is your reason for choosing that tactical goal?

      Delete
    13. Wrong. My goal is to get CCP to adjust the game mechanics so that suicide ganking is done to make ISK and accomplish things, not to make people cry, which is the way it should be. That would in an instant rid us of CODE, which ganks for tears and emotional abuse, not for Isk.

      Delete
    14. So successful completion of your tactical goal requires mindreading technology to be invented IRL for reasonable evaluation of your success. This is impractical; your goal is fundamentally flawed, and illogical. Sorry.

      Delete
    15. No, my goal rests on the revealed preferences of gankers. If we see them blowing up empty ships, there is a problem. If they are hitting high value targets, that is fine. Simple stuff, Sherlock.

      Delete
    16. The truth of your last response is not relevant to evaluation of your tactical goal.

e.g.: Your stated tactical goal, word for word: "My goal is to get CCP to adjust the game mechanics so that suicide ganking is done to make ISK and accomplish things, not to make people cry, which is the way it should be. That would in an instant rid us of CODE, which ganks for tears and emotional abuse, not for Isk."

One example of a way in which CCP could adjust suicide ganking to 'make ISK", would be to add a bounty to every suicide gank, paid post-successful gank, calculated to make the gank profitable. There are several immediate observations one can make upon this change:

      1. Making all suicide ganking profitable would not have the consequence that all suicide ganking was "done for profit". Humans are capable of doing actions which have multiple consequences, and choosing the consequence which they believe is the greatest motivator for the action as the 'cause'.

      2. Even in the hypothetical and extremely unlikely scenario where all ganks were done for profit in this post-change world, it is hard to imagine how the simple act of paying people for suicide ganking would "in an instant rid us of CODE". This is an illogical conclusion, based upon no real evidence or reasoning.

Hopefully this example shows you the logical pitfalls in your stated tactical goal. Please note that your last response, which rests upon the current state of affairs, is not relevant to this example; which takes place in a hypothetical and altered future state of affairs which fits the delineations of your tactical goal precisely.

      Delete
    17. My goal is to accomplish that within the existing mechanics. Not by rewarding them for profitable ganks, but by severly punishing them for unprofitable ones, which will naturally lead them to avoid such ganks. Keep trying.

      Delete
    18. "My goal is to accomplish that within the existing mechanics."

"Wrong. My goal is to get CCP to adjust the game mechanics "

      Now you're just lying.

      Thanks for playing.

      Delete
    19. No, within the existing loot mechanics for suicide ganking. I'd like to change the punishment mechanics to make ganking rarer and smarter, not change the rewards mechanics to make ganking blunter and more common.

      Delete
    20. Rewards and punishments are two sides of the same coin. It's all one set of mechanics, in any cohesive analysis. Apparently that's a little above your head. So, accepting your shortcomings, let's not look at this cohesively, let's zero in and look at just 'punishment mechanics'.

Fill us in, exactly how do you want to change the mechanics to make ganking rarer and "smarter"? Concrete details, not broad statements of intent.

    23. How do you define profitable Mr Belvar? Surely there are many things undertaken in Eve that require a net loss of ISK in order to accomplish a wider strategic goal. You seem to be letting your ISK-driven mentality cloud your thinking. Not everyone treats their wallet as a high score counter, some have loftier goals.

      Delete
    24. regardless of why they suicide gank: for ISK or to impose their will on others - ccp cannot nerf a thought process. So basically you are advocating all non-consensual pvp be banned in highsec. Good luck with that and your long slow progression towards your GED.

    25. "do the math."

      Ok, here's some math.

"main idea is much longer aggression timer for people with low sec status, and get rid of ability to buy sec status with tags. "

      does not equal

"My goal is to get CCP to adjust the game mechanics so that suicide ganking is done to make ISK and accomplish things, not to make people cry, which is the way it should be."

      Your methodology fails.

  10. Veers, they fail because they fail to understand Eve. AG channels are full of nothing but butt hurt and hatred. Trust me, I know all too well. You cannot stop the inevitable. You are on a fools quest. Perhaps if AG's had some form of viable leadership and those who will actually fight rather than run like a coward *cough* Veers *cough* or celebrate Concord km whoring as some sort of victory, AG's would be worth something. The problem is the rampant hatred and rl wishes of harm to people who destroyed their spaceships in a game...a game. Does this not say something about the person behind the keyboard? This is where the issue lies. Form up some sort of viable resistance other than a bunch of butt hurt players who throw insults. Immerse yourselves into the game you claim to want to play. To start, AG needs Veers to step down and stfu, he hurts your cause more than anyone, Dryson too, and don't get me started about JT. Get some real leadership and some form of effective order and maybe you'll be taken seriously rather than resorting to petty petitions that you are being harassed by players who are playing well within the rules. Grow a pair, fight back, or quit.

  12. Hi everyone, I hope you've been keeping up with the audio recordings of James 315's Manifesto II. If you have, and you are able to evaluate the current SOTG (state-of-the-game) in the light of past events, you'll have no difficulty in deconstructing the position of those members of the anti-New Order rabble whose opinions have recently appeared here.

Our suicide ganking of hulls in Highsec is a means to an end. Several ends, actually. It brings increased risk to pilots in the territory, helping to preserve the advertised nature of the game as a whole; it encourages our fellow capsuleers to learn more about tanking and fitting, and it offers a training path for the would-be ganker. This is all subsumed into other aspirations contained within the New Halaima Code of Conduct.

The problem for those who oppose us is that they do not have a 'James 315' and they do not have a 'Code'. They are also not backed up by an enthusiastic and dedicated group of players who actually have a concrete identity within the Game. Thus our detractors are reduced to sniping from the sidelines or 'shrieking at CCP' to change the game mechanics in their favour.

In future, you may ignore all pleas for change based upon butt-hurt. And it *is* all based upon butt-hurt, however dressed up. If CCP chooses to listen to the wailing carebears, then let them wail. It is the suicide-ganking community which has a tendency to 'adapt and innovate' (James 315), not the blubbers.

  13. Interesting how no one has refuted the claim that CODE is about harvesting tears, not about any actual gameplay. Just a lot of projection in a futile attempt to make up for the shame you guys feel deep inside.

It is indeed a sad state of affairs when grown adults play video games for the purpose of pissing off other adults. That is usually reserved for 15 year olds, but rather amusing when grown adults delude themselves otherwise.

What I do enjoy as well is when former members come to the forums and agree with this stance. Nothing more amusing than hearing CODE defend themselves against former CODE members calling them mentally damaged manchildren.

Keep it up CODE, you're the laughing stock of EVE at this point! Laughing stock of life as well.

    3. Eve isn't a game about group hugs and friendship. Most mmo's will sugar coat everything so the players don't get upset, Eve just says HTFU and get over it.
I will also admit that I do enjoy pissing other people off and feel no shame about doing so, its a game, if I find enjoyment in doing that who are you to tell me I cant.
We're not breaking any rules of the game nor any mechanics of the game. Ganking is a valid part of Eve and in following the player made content that is CODE we will usually go ahead and try to engage in discussion with the target afterwards, but if you don't want to talk to us post-gank then just block us and be on your way. You can even avoid the ganking part by buying a permit (at a low cost) and actually playing the game (not being afk).
If your not enjoying Eve then why are you playing the GAME in the first place?!

      Delete
  14. Also, a word of advice Veers: Stop making suggestions about gameplay in regards to ganking. You really have no idea what you are talking about, heh. Your annoyance in regards to tear collection - while understandable - is clouding your judgment in regards to mechanics.

The gank mechanics are fine; if anything they could use a buff.

Focus your energy on things that are actually true, such as the childish and broken personalities of CODE members, who are pretty much using a video game to feel better about their own failed RL existences. They know this is why they act this way, rub it in and they'll start to feel even worse about themselves.
