The Martyrs of Highsec #1

You know, there's a lot of hate circulating around EVE these days. An atmosphere of nastiness has taken hold. Everyone's trashing each other, bathing in the blood of the permabanned, and a lot of nonsense like that. The New Order is the antidote. We care about people. We've even taken an interest in the most overlooked class of EVE player, the AFK carebears of highsec.

We're the exception. Today, people don't seem to care about anything that doesn't affect them directly. Whenever anyone departs the EVE community, the most commonly heard phrase is, "And nothing of value was lost." Goon leader The Mittani has more fans than anyone else in EVE. He also has more enemies than anyone else, and he has more enemies than fans. If he were banned, most players would declare a holiday. SOMER Blink was by far the most popular player-run business in the history of EVE, with countless thousands of clients. They offered barely a word in support of SOMER's founder when he was burned at the stake. I tell you the truth, if Chribba himself were banned tomorrow, it wouldn't be long before the hate came bubbling to the surface...

"I never knew what was supposed to be so great about that guy anyway."
"Can I have his stuff?"
"Wasn't that the weirdo with the Veldspar tattoo and the phone number in his bio and all the alts named after actresses?"
"Good, now I can scam supercap sales."
"Chribba who?"

I hold to an unpopular belief, that whenever a content creator leaves us, something of value is lost. Maybe only those who directly interacted with the former player will take notice. So be it. This means we have a special obligation to remember the fallen among us.

This is the first edition of The Martyrs of Highsec.

EROTICA 1

Who can forget Erotica 1, the most accomplished isk doubler in the history of EVE?

Many have doubled isk, and many more will double isk in the future. Jita may have thousands of players packed into local, but there's one player missing. Erotica was permabanned. An official reason was never given. But we know what she did: She made our eyes sparkle. She was guilty of raising smiles all across highsec.

She also raised funds for the New Order. She was the first shareholder ever to receive a Duodecuple Supreme Protector's Tip of the Hat™, for her contribution of 12 billion isk to the Treasury. More importantly, she got a party hat.

Including the shares purchased in her name, Erotica raised over 65 billion isk for the New Order's gankers. At a rate of 10:1, well over half a trillion isk worth of bot-aspirancy was demolished. Even as the hour of her execution approached, Erotica was thinking of others. A day before her permaban, she sent the remaining contents of her wallet, 39 billion isk, to the New Order. She received a Triple-Tredecuple Supreme Protector's Tip of the Hat™ and the gratitude of gankers everywhere.

Some may call her a thief, a liar, a scammer and a knave. I was proud to call her an Agent of the New Order of Highsec. She never told me anything but the truth. And I am absolutely confident that if she invited me to her TeamSpeak channel, she wouldn't have subjected me to extraordinary levels of real-life harassment.

Erotica 1 firmly believed in the value of scammers in EVE. She also felt that a Bonus Round should only end when the "client" said so. Unlike some, Erotica was passionate about transparency, and made audio recordings of her activities freely available for audit by the masses. She was always ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for her beliefs.

FIGHTER JETS GUITARSOLO

Fighter Jets GuitarSolo had an extraordinary name. It still gets players amped up and ready to rock 'n' roll.

Everyone believed CCP when they told us that scamming was 100% permitted in EVE. If so, then the Bonus Round's "scam" components were allowed, as long as a Bonus Round did not lead to real-life harassment. Fighter Jets took CCP at their word.

Fighter Jets carried the torch for her friend and comrade. It was an act of extraordinary courage and heroism. It also led to her permaban. Like Jimi Hendrix, she was taken away from us so young. She was in her prime.

During her brief life in highsec, Fighter Jets found time for acts of Code enforcement. Her alt assisted in the awox and acquistion of Damned Defeat corporation.

Fighter Jets wouldn't let EVE players forget the Bonus Round. We didn't. Nor will we ever forget Fighter Jets GuitarSolo, and the melodies she played for us.

    1. Come back when you actually learn what that word even means.

#ProTip: Playing the anti-hero in a video game about spaceships does not make someone "psychotic". You should consult Beers Tears Feldspar about this, beyond being a well paid internet space lawyer, I'm sure he has a solid background in psychology and social psychology as well, just ask him about it.

Related: Arm chair medical diagnosis given by the ignorant using the content of a video game is quite lulzy, and I encourage you to keep throwing around words you don't even understand. It's amusing as all hell to us "readers" :-)

    2. Actually, it's not the same guy. If you've ever listened to the "infamous" bonus room for which Erotica1 was banned, you hear E1 address "Jets" by name at least twice. Jets was a true believer in the way E1 ran her business. Jets decided that the business wasn't wrong, and maybe the Bonus Room could be made more contestant-friendly. Unfortunately, as a result of many carebear tears and negative press, Jets was banned as well.

    4. Logical fallacy:

You are assuming the recent wave of bans had anything to do with the CODE. alliance, the New Order, ganking, or carebears.

#ProTip: It had nothing to do with any of these things. Perhaps you should read more and post less.

I don't derive joy from carebear misery. It saddens me that carebears are as habitually miserable and selfish as they are. It's why I support minerbumping and ganking in general, as an effort to break carebears out of their narrow, isk-centric mentality and save them from themselves. If I gank you, it's not to make you unhappy, but because I care.

I don't want you to be unhappy. Do you still want unhappiness for me and mine?

    7. Your efforts are noble Maria, but wasted. Most of the haters that comment most likely don't even play anymore, and if they do they will never "get it".

Let them hate, let them spew, let them cry, and let them bitch. Their emotions mean absolutely nothing to me. I don't care if they are happy, sad, angry, or depressed. They are targets to be hunted. Nothing more. If they ASK for a permit, I will sell them one and consider them "off season" for a year... otherwise it's fair game. It's not up to us to make sure the are compliant... that's their responsibility.

So... anything other than a request for a permit is pointless jibber jabber and should be treated as such, because trying to reason with these people or enjoy the game with them as it should be is impossible. You would have more luck discussing the nature of gravity with a pineapple.

      Delete
    8. The point is quite moot anyway. If the miner I explode, the corp I awox, or the person I scam gets all miserable and upset about it - that's not my fault or my problem. If this game causes them to have such a serious emotional reaction, they probably should consider a game that is less PVP orientated.

I don't know a single member of the New Order who wants anyone to be "miserable." Every single person I know simply wants to shoot spaceships and have a good time playing EVE. Shooting spaceships is a supported game mechanic, and if my target does not enjoy that aspect of EVE - they really should consider staying docked on looking into other game titles that cater more to what they want out of a game.

I agree with the Colonel. I try to reach out here and talk to the carebear from time to time, but it's really a exercise in futility. They are playing by a set of rules that the game itself does not recognize, and due to the toxic nature of their communities - really have nothing to add to any conversation beyond grade school level "trolling", creepy homophobia, and even creepier personal attacks.

Hope everyone has a great week!

    9. To be fair, I will say this... there are a very few, and I mean FEW that get it. I tried and failed a gank yesterday... I had just fitted T2 guns to my cat and wanted to check the DPS difference. Found a special edition mack in a field, I did not think I had a real chance but went for it anyway because... why not?
I almost had him! Well into structure when Concord showed up and blew my ass away.

We chatted afterwards and he was cool about the whole thing... he was not paying attention while watching TV... caught him by surprise. He even admitted it was a near thing! He even offered to give me the drops from my wreak, but I told him to the victor goes the spoils.
We shared a couple of LOL's and I gave him a piece of free advice about being watching his ass while CODE was around and double checking his fits.

All in all an enjoyable experience. Not that it will stop me from ganking him again and I told him so. Unfortunately, he was the exception rather than the rule. Ganking is a game. Predator vs. prey. Hunter vs. the hunted.

      Delete
    10. "Ganking is a game. Predator vs. prey. Hunter vs. the hunted." Totally agree, I support the New Order.I know that I am the prey but I'm not a stupid carebear, I never autopilot and never sacrifice tank for yield, I will however go afk once in a while (hardly ever) to take a piss or put on a load of laundry or something, but I understand the risk I'm taking. All my ships I put a lot of effort into its defenses, Agents have tryed and failed once so far to bring down my Mack. 2 cats could not take it down, I enjoy my role as the pray and am always trying to stay one step ahead with better and better fits. With out risk I would not enjoy the game, I am probably one of the only "carebears" that are willing to still ninja mine in null with a prospect not for profit but for the rush of it. I will not purchase a permit for 2 reasons, 1. My mining corp is against the New Order and would think i'm an awoxer and 2. I don't want protection, like I stated before I enjoy the rush of being hunted. I sometimes go as far as mining as deep in your territory as possible. But since I do support the new order I may donate some isk using an alt. Also I would like to point out that there are a bunch of ice miners in the Osmon and Wuos area that need guidance, sure I've seen some agents here and there but New order activity needs to be increased in that area in my opinion. So from now on I will be splitting my isk 3 ways evenly, fueling my corps pos, bettering my fits, and donating to the new order with an alt. My Alt/Spy goes by the in game name coolNAO

      2) No where in the EULA does it state that having "crude ideas" can result in a ban. Of course, no where in the EULA does it state that being "associated" with someone violating the EULA can result in a ban, so who knows what the future may bring? :-)

I would be quite amused to see CCP begin permabanning everyone who has "crude ideas". We'd have to ban at least 90% of the playbase right off the bat, and the other 10% after we look into things a little more :)

Great article, way too much hate and rudeness in the EVE community. Seeing how many players are totally unable to separate a video game from reality is a bit depressing.

Hopefully this kind of positive journalism will remind us all that everyone in EVE, even the guy who just exploded your spaceship - is a real person behind a keyboard somewhere and should be treated as such. I know that is how I have always treated everyone.

    2. Your ignorance of the situation is simply amazing.

You have no idea what happened, who was involved, nor do you now or will you ever understand any of the actual details.

But go on, live in a your silly fantasy world of unwarranted self importance where you feel that you have the faintest clue of any of the story.

Remember the "I was there" EVE trailer, Veers? You were most assuredly *not* there. You suffer from the same issue that much of the EVE community suffers from - very strong opinions about subjects that you know next to nothing about. In your deluded fantasy world you probably even think that you somehow had anything to do with any of the recent bans, don't you?

      Delete
    3. Veers I see you bringing up "emotional" distress a lot. I am curious, what constitutes an emotional breakdown, why are some people more susceptible to having them than others and where does our responsibility lay within that parameter, and should we hold valid an "emotional breakdown" caused by a video game? Or should we realize that these people having these "breakdowns" aren't operating at normal levels themselves, if in fact they allow something like EVE to give them a "breakdown"?

      Delete
    4. I listened to the recording...it had more than enough information. Plus there was a thorough investigation afterwards, I've seen all the relevant materials for all sides. And CCP agrees with my view of the events, not with yours. For your shameful conduct you have quite properly been banned. Maybe it's time for some reflection on your part? An apology perhaps, and a new beginning?

To my buddy Anon - generally it comes down to uncontrolled rage, which is what CODE tries to elicit. We rightly don't care about rage due to valid in game events. What CCP has rightly cracked down is using the game to specifically bait someone into rage. Blowing up ships? Fine. Stealing money? Fine. Getting someone on TS to anger and humiliate them for no in game benefit? Not fine.

      Delete
    5. Are saying you would condone code if they didn't condone the bonus room?

    6. Well, I have other problems as well. The abuse of bumping, the use of -10 sec status, and the fact that the Code itself is full of fallacies, and is not followed by the agents. Plus I take a rather dim view of the leadership (or ex-leadership).

      Delete
    7. I assure you Beers, your 'view' of anyone, dim or otherwise, is widely regarded as about as valuable as dog shit on the bottom of a pair of boots, and is appreciated even less so. But please, continue sharing your 'dim views' so that we may giggle some more.

Also, on another relevant point - in my personal experience, it tends to be those calling other people sociopaths who need more professional help than anyone. After all, it's easier to ignore the flaws in ourselves when we project them on to others.

    8. If you want to troll, you are going to need to do a better job. Look at how Loyalanon does it - you need lots of exclamation marks and simple words.

Veers, you're just making me feel bad for how blinded you are by hate.
DJ Entropy has the right of this situation. Whether you agree with Code and it's activities or not, everyone playing Eve is a real person and should be treated as such. That being said this is still a game, so blowing people up and taking all their stuff is fair game.

    12. Veers, you avoided the question and totally tried to change topic on us.

What "recording" did you listen to? Sohkar's bonus room? Are you even aware of the story behind that recording, and how Sohkar stood up and loudly ... apologized for his racist remarks, mentioned he was having a bad day, and found the very idea of someone getting banned over it totally screwed up?

Or did you skip that part of the story? Something tells me you did.

And no, you have *not* seen all of the relevant information for "both sides" - no one outside of CCP has. Stop lying to everyone. Unless you work for CCP, you don't know any of the details around the recent wave of bans - no one does. Why are you lying?

He was invited to our teamspeak server once to sperg on for a few hours. In this session he ranted on for a while about how he should be the one to lead the New Order, regardless of the fact that he had never done anything what so ever. He was then offered a leadership role, under the condition that he takes the time to earn the respect of others in the community and prove his value as a FC. Of course, all of that was too much for him to handle, so he ran and has been shiptoasting here ever sense.

It's really the unwritten story of Veers, when it comes down to it. He has a perma-sad that unlike the "anti-ganking" community, where cognitive dissonance and unwarranted self-importance will make you a five star general overnight - it carries no weight with the New Order and is something we treat as the comedy goldmine it is.

We rejected him, and sent him on his way. He's still not over it. I doubt he ever will be. It's obvious that he is envious of those who actually create content in EVE, and is unable to figure out how to do that for himself - I fear that our rejection of him may have sent him over the edge, however. All the insane "I'm a super rich space lawyer" and "emotional abuse" posts from him started right around that time.

Oh well. Can't save them all from themselves :)

But CCP and EvE change and the biggest dickheads get weeded out.

I personally found the Sokar bonus round rather disturbing and wanted the activity reigned in. This does not mean that I was against the bonus rounds though. I was an active participant in a community scam attempt, something that as far as I know is unique in Eve's history.

The thing that I can't figure out is what makes this scam so much worse in the eyes of the community than some of the awoxes and ransoms that have not been honored throughout the years. This deserved a warning, not multiple permanent bans. CCP needs to get their act together and stop throwing around the ban hammer without explanation.

Don't want to be made fun of on the internet? Click the "X" button.

On that note, I should claim "harassment" and "torture" and "emotional abuse" from all the posters who have made homophobic remarks about me, threatened me real life harm, or in any way "bullied" me.

Of course, I won't bother - I come from the internets and also don't have a raging case of USI (Google that if you need to).

    6. It was a big enough deal to get these CODE members banhammered pretty hard. I will say the dude could of been smart enough to completely avoid this horrible scam but the way it went is what caused the bans to occur. You guys are praising bullying here. They dangled all of his belongings in the air trying to make him jump like a cat playing with a toy. If you don't see a problem with this you're a horrible human being. I'm happy these people were removed from this game and hopefully forever.

    - This guy was speech impeeded and was humiliated that for.
    - the collateral: his wife started crying
    - those people didn't know when to end.
    BOOM - BAN

    1. I love how when anyone tries to go on about the Sohkar incident, they always leave out half the story.

You know, the half where Sohkar apologized for his racist remarks, talked about how he was having a bad day but felt a lot better now, and how concerned and disappointed he was that Ripard Teg was trying to turn the whole thing into a witch hunt. Hell, he even contacted Ripard Teg to tell him that he was fine, he did not need to have his feelings protected - Ripard promptly ignored him, and then even had the audacity to mention on the forums that he really did not care about the "torture" or "harassment" that he claimed Sohkar was subjected to.

That's all public information, easy to google, and 100% verifiable. So, before you start up the "poor Sohkar had a sad" angle, remember that Sohkar himself would totally disagree with you.

In his own words, "I got pissed off. I got over it. I don't even see what the big deal is."

He was not "humiliated" as he chose not to be. Sohkar had a bad night in internet spaceship land, lost a bunch of stuff, went crazy on voice comms, went to bed - woke up the next day and realized it was no big deal and that he over reacted. No one was "tortured", "humiliated" or "abused".

You give a horrid dis-service to people who are actually harassed when you just throw words like that out there to further your own personal agenda of not liking something (In this case, the New Order).

  24. Wow!?! She started crying??? And he had a speech impediment?? Keep up the good work CODE. But next time instead of shooting yourselves in the foot, try aiming a little higher. No wonder the Conference Elite is now recruiting, everyone with a conscience is too ashamed to log in. Stay classy CODE.

Woe is them. How about the fact that the guy claimed to be an air traffic controller? Why is he allowed to direct real life aircraft but cannot handle himself better in a situation involving space pixels? Why is he not resolute enough to not fall for an obvious and well known scam, and why didn't he have the integrity to not let that incident cause him to act in such a manner, and be strong in front of his wife. I'm not saying the BR was right, but he was definitely wrong for reacting the way he did to the situation.

Of course you wouldn't understand that because you suffer from the same inadequacies .

Totally agree, I support the New Order.I know that I am the prey but I'm not a stupid carebear, I never autopilot and never sacrifice tank for yield, I will however go afk once in a while (hardly ever) to take a piss or put on a load of laundry or something, but I understand the risk I'm taking. My Alt/Spy goes by the in game name xXxNAVY SPACE SEALxXx
