Shareholder Vote on the Fate of Ba'Ba

In three previous posts, I recounted the story of Ba'Ba. By now, I am sure you are familiar with her situation. Will Ba'Ba be allowed to continue mining in peace, or will she be stripped of her privileges? That's up to our distinguished shareholders, who will put it to a vote.

But first, you will have an opportunity to read Ba'Ba's plea to the shareholders. Her plea is quite long, so I'll provide a quick screenshot of the amount that actually fit on my screen. For your reading convenience, the entirety of her EVEmail is copied below the screenshot in regular text.

Ba'Ba writes the following:
I am Ba'Ba,

Apparently, I am appealing to the shareholders to keep my protected status or forfeit it and return to the red pen list, for asking a question to James 315, a simple question of what am I being protected from. I have been respectful through the entire conversation with him today. I've asked the question several times only to have him give me dodgy answers in return that I have responded to.

These answers are "From yourself, from your isk greed, from irrelevance, from the lack of law and order, from your evil deed of petitioning me."

I've given the answers of, I'm not harming myself, I'm playing this game, this character was intended to be a miner, it goes on asteroid runs when needed otherwise mining ice while training R&D, and manufacturing while I play my alt fighter. I've responded to him every time, never once afk, and if late it's because I play with two monitors and two accounts.

There is no isk greed as I'm not trying to make more than I need to support myself, I don't even buy plex with my isk, it supports myself, and my nephew (while I teach him how to play the game and earn money for himself) and sometimes a friend or two (when they need a spot of cash and they pay me back), I rarely have over 300m in my Wallet at any given time. I don't personally need more, I don't personally want more, if it's needed to better friends and family then I will do my best to aquire it.

He has told me my name was irrelevant before I payed him, nobody knew me before I payed him. Nobody knows me now. Nothing has changed in that respect. If people do know my name it's because James has painted me in his light of what is evil and what is good, people might know of my name but they don't know me, I haven't made any advances in corps or with other players because of James, so I don't see "protection" there. I'm not for or against that, it doesn't bother me.

Law and order is provided through Concord, so I don't see how he is providing it, so I asked why, what is he protecting ME from.

And the last answer, of me petitioning him, I have payed my dues for that, I've payed 30m isk, I spit my viritol his way, but I've quit, there is no point, todays discussion was calm and respectful from me, while I was treated like an idiot while attempting to explain. I will pay another 10m when my 365 days are up, but I remain neutral to the New Order, I neither support it nor deny it. It is what it is, I will pay for my nephew when he gets his miner up and running in the next week. I will pay what I owe. But, to admit he's Supreme Protector, I must have an answer as to what is he protecting me from. None of his answers are answers at all, none of them have helped me personally. None of them have changed the way I play this game. AFK and Botting do not apply to me as I am at my keyboard every time he calls, I log off when I'm done for the session, I answer things directed towards me.

He doesn't provide protection from gankers, he tells us we must respect them, as they are a part of EVE, I admit they are a part of EVE, I've been ganked a few times, I expect them, they are not an issue to me. When I was ganked just the other day, I only sent him a message asking if there was a reason or if they were just rolling through, when he told me his answer I left it alone, it was over, it was done with there is no reason to get angry over a ganker. The only issue I have is I do not know what I am being protected from. I didn't need protection before James moved in, so what do I need it from now that he is here? I don't feel the respect he claims to give, nor the love, or guidence that he claims to give in return for his "protection". Instead I feel humiliated and degraded, talked down to, and forced to abide by laws I don't understand what they exist for, mind you, I've read the code several times. I've read the manifestos, I know what James is selling, but none of it means/applies anything to me personally as a player, or a person.

Again, I will pay my dues to the New Order, my fees that are mentioned in the code, but I am neutral, I neither support nor deny, until I have an answer, THE answer, because there is only one. I've told James, if he would answer that, I would join the New Order, might even become a shareholder, maybe one of the highest. I don't expect to be supported by the shareholders, for my simple question that should be easy to answer. I am doing this to prove that I have done it, to talk to the shareholders, probably, one first, and last time. But I thank you all for your time you've spent reading this.
Shareholders may cast their votes based on whatever critera they wish.

The Vote

Shall Ba'Ba be stripped of her mining privileges and rejoin the Red Pen list?

[ ] Yes, she has betrayed the New Order with her egregious violations of the Code. She must pay 30 million isk and offer a pledge of allegiance to James 315 and the New Order before she can regain what she so thoughtlessly threw away.

[ ] No, she may continue to mine in peace as a member of the New Order family in good standing.

[ ] Abstain.

Shareholders may vote either by replying in the vote thread on EVE-O, or by sending me an EVEmail.

The voting period will last from now until Sunday, October 20th at 01:00 EVEtime (Saturday, October 19th at 9:00pm Eastern).

  1. Ba'Ba, James is protecting you from boredom and ennui - the same thing he is protecting the rest of us from - even those who don't mine.

There is your answer, now join the shareholders as you promised and show your support for the cause!

  3. This is why I say that is like a train wreck in a previous comment - Ba'Ba does not wish to acknowledge in chat that you are the "supreme protector" (or whatever the terminology is), but they acknowledge by giving you your payment.

I should have went into psychology!

    1. I disagree with this above comment. James is humble and giving. This is a project where he gives literally days of his time helping others. The isk he receives from miners in fees is not worth his time at all and when you add in the abuse like yours above it is not worth it at all except from someone as unselfish as James is. Truly a model player in the EVE universe.

    2. ok...explain how he HELPS people...what about the poor miners starting out who cannot afford 10 million isk? They have a choice of being bumped every time they try to make money or being forced off the game. I;m sorry...James is a bully and I look forward to the bounty hunting revamp...I'll be first in line to take that bounty...I hate bullies...

    3. Poor miners who start out do not start out with mining ice. It is a privilege to be able to seek out that glorious material and our illustrious Protector makes it possible. If they can't afford to be at their keyboards and proactively support their community with precious materials, they should go into a different line of work. Space is scary, even with Concord, who is usually busy with Pirates. James makes sure we can mine in peace and joy.

    4. PLEASE. Explain a couple of things for me. First of all, you dont explain how this nut-bag helps ANYONE. Other than the occasional laugh, and my being thankful that I'm not as whacked as this douche, I really cant see how his existence in eve is beneficial to ANYONE. Secondly, how exactly do you differentiate yourselves from other cults or other mob-like protection rackets? You people always claim that you are "civilizing" high sec, but do nothing more than provide an annoyance at best. Thirdly, how exactly does this Jim Jones class psychopath ensure that those that pay can mine in "peace and joy"? I sincerely doubt that he prevents even a measurable amount of hulk ganking, or any other miner griefing. In fact, he is a CAUSE of it. I strongly urge all of you loyal lemmings to reevaluate the way you spend your time on this game, and leave this nutter to his lonely, twisted self.

    5. Supreme Protector James helps all out in Hisec ice fields by presenting an environment that allows for happy mining. That's how he helps. As to your ability to see his existence being beneficial, I extend to you an invitation to reread The Code. As to how I differentiate myself from other cults or mob-like protection rackets? Easy. I sacrifice MY time to help YOU (the miners). I don't collect on your time, I invest my own. Annoyance at best, as opposed to civility? How so? We are eliminating the afk and botting aspects. Civilization is based on communication. If you aren't there, you shouldn't be there (so to speak). I don't understand the Jim Jones psychopath reference. You get a 365 mining pass to mine bump free. Kool-Aid is optional. As to hulk ganking... not on our watch! not in our ice fields! I haven't heard of 1 hulk being ganked yet under James protection. His Stabber is Invincible.

Lastly, I do analyze and reevaluate my gaming and time spent in Eve. Conclusion? I mine. I bump afk miners. I improve HiSec space.

Honestly, if you are not afk, and you pay your tax, you are doing what you are SUPPOSED to do under the Code. Why fight it? Why be lost? Makes no sense.

  6. There are always going to be some people, like Ba'Ba, who don't care about the order. Some will never become supports of the order.

But you can always make them into enemies. If Ba'Ba is stripped of mining privileges, that will be a propaganda victory for enemies of the order.

Last I checked, asking a question didn;t lead to a kangeroo court like this...you all sicken me.

    5. Ruining? If you find that the New Order is ruining your game, I'm afraid you're in the wrong game. EVE is about social interaction within the game mechanics, and that includes both positive and negative interactions.

Besides which, a fair proportion of the (public) votes are actually for Ba'Ba. That's not so ruinous.

And yes. Considering that we speak to the miners of New Hisec almost every day, we are perfectly aware that many of them live in the misguided belief that we are their enemies.

  7. Bullying is bullying...no matter how James spins it. If he is just acting like this in EVE...then he has a sick sadistic idea of fun...the sort of fun that ruins it for other people...given that miners that don;t have the experience to go into Low and null sec SHOULDN'T;T HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE TO PLAY HOW THEY WANT TO...his goofus comment labelling people who say they are war vets or single mums is offensive and borderline racist...does it occur to you feeble minds that maybe these people are TELLING THE TRUTH?

No, of course it didn't...James just has to snap his fingers and you ask how high to jump or more precisely...how many miners games to ruin. Alot of people...me included fork out real cash to play this game and they do not want some guy and his pet cultists ruining things...and don;t misunderstand me...you are cultists.

As for James laughable claim that a few CCP employees might be agents...HAHAHA, CCP would never have any truck with any of you...they only tolerate your foul behaivour cause James is so careful not to cross the line...but he's balanced on it...and one day he'll slip...oh and I would be careful with your agents...the next ones who try to lock me down to extort a fee from me will be blasted.

I hope for James sake he stops his little empire before its too late...alot of Null sec alliances train their new pilots in high sec...one day that coward will push someone who pushes back...the sort of person who spreads the pushing back to everyone ho supports him...be it agent...or shareholder. Don;t take this as a threat...I wouldn't be pushing back...but I've met plenty of alliances in my time who would...a word from the wise...either that or James madness will annoy CCP so much that he'll join the Mittani in a ban...not a permaban...but maybe one where he can learn that other players have feelings too...and maybe don;t WANT to be led...and definately don't want to be harassed with bumping till they agree or leave EVE.

    1. You misunderstand. James does not ruin the gameplay of miners. The miners did not have gameplay before James brought the light of the New Order in their lives. Activating some mining lasers then leaving the computer to do something else, or alt-tabbing away, is not gameplay, it's an activity which is equivalent to botting.

James is giving the miners interaction with other players - gameplay, as permitted by the rules of CCP, and as per EVE's design. He does this of his own free will, because he has chosen to take upon himself the mantle of Supreme Protector, the selfless warden of the secure spaces - the burden of leadership, on behalf of the miners of highsec.

How can any of this be interpreted as negative?

    2. As a member of one of the largest nullsec alliances, excuse me for laughing. You would not find any alliance worth anything training its pilots to mine in hisec. And if you did, and if we bumped them, well, no fucks would be given. As a rule, nullsec pilots are expected to put up with worse than bumping and not cry.

After losing almost 2 billion ISK worth of ships to the illustreous Agents of the New Order of Highsec at the cost of one Rifter and one Pod, they withdrew from the field for the duration.

Its all covered in the Dueling for the New Order blog entry of Oct 3rd.

    6. I;m sorry...where in my comments was I threatening you or the New order with 'Wardecs'? The answer was NOWHERE!!!! The closest was me poining out that 'one day that coward will push someone who pushes back...the sort of person who spreads the pushing back to everyone who supports him'. Clearly, Phoenix you didn;t bother to read my post properly or you are trying to twist my words. Oh, and I'm not miner...I'm a professional mission runner and only a small miner...when I need isk to buy ammo...and in that line of work...AFK gets you blown to pieces.

In responce to Kainotomiu...that is your CEO and Directors choice...but there are other alliances that probably wouldn't find it funny...such as Eve University...I doubt they would take kindly to having their students extorted when all they are doing is taking ice mining lessons...

The final part of my final comment is aimed at James 315. You would get alot more people signing up to the New order if you got Gankers to pay for the privileges to attack the miners you claim to 'protect'. To quote a saying: You get more flies with honey then with vinegar. So far, all you're offering is vinegar in the form of 'Pay us or we'll sabotage your mining'.

What wil lbe next? Ganking pilots who dare use autopilot in Highsec? Demanding a 10 mill isk fee from rookie pilots for the privilege of playing in your territory? Where does it end? When everyone except your precious New order has either cancelled their subscriptions in disgust or gone to Null sec JUST TO GET AWAY FROM YOU?

    7. Largefish, it is disheartening to read such a large and detailed post of explaining why people must only stay in one system. This is a large galaxy and offers a lot in it. I understand you said your final comment is aimed at James_315, but as an Agent of his, I feel it is my duty to remind you it is aimed at all of us.

But to better answer your questions while our Father of HiSec is out protecting rookie pilots as you put it, such a large galaxy unfortunately at this time has enough room to harbor the malcontent who do not wish the Protection of the Code. As much as it saddens me, people do run away.

We could however, use your help in spreading the Code to those malcontents and show them how much they are missing, if you would not mind to please sir.

    2. You realize that there are quite a few of us miners, who actually enjoy mining and take whatever challenges may come our way with a smile, right? I for one enjoy mining as it gives me time to discuss plans with my corp-mates, tell bad jokes and try making a budget. If someone else gets ganked, I don't mind sticking around, laughing at their expense. If someone tries to gank me, well, too bad for them that we always keep a Scimitar orbiting our Orca during Mining Operations. I've only ever lost two ships while mining, and that was before I found out how Wardecs work (the nice-guy pirates who wardecced us were respectful enough to actually give us a good explanation on how wars worked before Inferno after blowing up my Hulk and Orca-alt).

I never AFK mine. I never use bots for anything. I don't mine non-stop when I'm online. And yet you put me in the same group as those despicable dirtbags that resort to botting, AFK Mining and bot-like behaviour? Also, what exactly is a "bot aspirant"? Someone who mines 23.5/7? Someone who doesn't bother looking at EVE or even being near his computer while mining? Someone you just don't like because they're not pirates or bumpers or because they disagree with you? There's no definite explanation of what a "bot aspirant" and "bot aspirant behaviour" is.

And no. I'm not a carebear. I mine and run Missions and Incursions, yes, but I also quite frequently fly out in low-cost ships and shoot at other players without giving a single **** about my ship, modules and cargo.

Also, when you say "human hi-sec dwellers", Miners and "Bot-aspirants" are included, because they're still as much flesh and blood as you are and they live in high-sec. You may not realize it, but that's because the New Order's ego simply blinds any of its "Agents".

Think about it this way. When you bump someone, you effectively ram your ship into theirs. Now convert this to Real Life and try putting yourself in the bumped pilot's shoes. You wouldn't like it if someone in a Skoda rammed into the side of your brand-new, shiny Ferrari, would you? Sure, in New Eden, ships don't take damage from collisions, but my analogy remains the same. Try thinking about that, next time. Becasue one day it will happen to you in Real Life. And when it does, your victims might be the ones bumping your car or the dirtbags laughing and dancing on top of your grave.

No, I'm not angry. I know that EVE is just a game and that anonymosity makes most people act like complete dirtbags towards eachother, and quite frankly, I don't care about any other person on this planet, whether they mine or bump or don't play EVE at all.

But your incessant circular questioning has managed to irritate me to the point that now I just wanna see you podded. I don't believe for a second that you've read James' manifestos because in them he addresses all your questions and more IN GREAT DETAIL. This means that you're either a liar, or just plain too dense to get it. In either case I feel you deserve a punishment. In fact, I may just blow you out of the ether on principle, regardless of the shareholders' judgement. I'm not quite as merciful as James, but hey, that's why he's the Supreme Protector and I'm not.

  13. I don't understand. People are saying The New Order can NOT do certain things, because miners wish to play the game how "they" see fit. Am I the only one who sees the contradiction in that? You're telling our All Father he cannot do what he does baed on the premisethat you are allowed to do what you do.

Just to simplify it since I know miners get road daze staring at a big icey rock; if you want a certain thing, you cannot tell someone they can't do what they want. Same rules apply.

Speaking of our favotite Space Lawyering. Did you know, that the TOS/EULA ONLY applies to you? You don't KNOW that WE (I saw WE as any individual that values the ORder and understands structure) clicked yes on it. I know "I" did not make the agreement with you. I know "I" did not receive a copy of YOUR (whoever any of you may be!) TOS agreement. So how do I know the rules? I clicked on MY TOS.

So kindly keep YOUR TOS out of MY fucking business =)

Sorry for the rant, but I noticed people have a problem saying what others can and can't do like they are CCP and think their agreements apply to all, which it doesn't.

Next time, embrace what our Glorious Leader is sacrificing so much for. Pay your stipend and call it a day. It doesn't cost you anything else to admit and show the world that "yes, I gave the New Order my tax to be able to mine under his protection, he is the Supreme Leader" and then continue about your day. Now you are claiming he is disruptive... but it is Ba'Ba and that mentality that individual holds that is disruptive. How many miners had to take a sick day to leave their ship to follow this meeting of such "union-esque" caliber?

And now our Supreme Protector in all his infinite Patience and Wisdom must take away time from his Invincible Stabber, which sacrifices it's Life's Blood to protect you, to simply hear the pleas of something that shouldn't NEED to be addressed.

I urge you, Ba`Ba, see the error of your ways, help contribute to the glory of our Miner Population, especially with the knowledge you are subjecting your Fledgling to this world. Let him see how Great HiSec mining can be under the Guidance and Protection of our Lord Father James_315.

  14. Most miners are mining by Alt-Tabbing because they are getting plenty of in-game interaction PVPing on their mains whilst doing it. Not staring at rocks all day as the new order would have you believe (I realize 'the new order' should have been capitalized, but I just felt they didn't deserve the effort required in pressing the shift key)

I know several players who are part-funding their PVP this way, and it appears that Ba-Ba is doing the same.

A shame really, James 315 was providing plenty of excitement and fun in Hi-Sec, stirring things up and getting the miner population all riled. Now, in an attempt to do something even more outrageous, he's pushed it to far. This is just pure harassment.

Then again, perhaps the new order would prefer that these players aren't out in low and null, PVP'ing on their mains whilst doing a bit of alt-mining, but glued to their chairs mining all day instead, after all, less combat is only going to improve this game.

As stupid as anyone may think James and Co. are, people like Ba'Ba look that much worse for getting involved in their games when they are so easy to avoid.

I do like what they are doing. This is all entertaining like a bad soap opera.

  17. I could not be arsed to read more than two lines of the quoted text. Get her off the hook for the effort she put in.
